Unique Tibetan Houses in Serthar of Sichuan
Serthar, or "Seda" in Chinese, is a Tibetan pasturing area located in the southeastern part of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau in Garze Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture of Sichuan Province. It features capacious grassland, amazing lakes and endless rivers with an elevation above 4,000 meters.
Serthar means "golden horse" in Tibetan. Legend has it that a horse-head-shaped gold was ever discovered in the grassland in Serthar.
Serthar is also a place where Tibetan Buddhism is the main part of life. All temples there belong to the Nyingma Sect,or the Red Sect,a branch of Tibetan Buddhism. The most well-known one is the Five Sciences Buddhism Academy, the world's largest of the kind. Besides, there are some other small temples scattering around.
In Serthar, the average annual temperature is -1℃, with sufficient sunlight, long winter and no summer.
