Tips: Best Time to Mt. Everest
The most ideal time to visit the Mt.Qomolangma is between mid-September and May.
From September to December, the weather is usually consistent with mild and warm days and cold nights. February, March, April, May, October, November, and December are all favorable months to visit the base camp of the Mt.Qomolangma.
However, for mountaineers, the best time to climb the Mt. Qomolangma is in spring (between April and May). The mountain is virtually unclimbable in summer due to the deadly monsoon season which generally brings mist to the area.
Experts also point out a small window of opportunity is also available in autumn after the monsoon passes, and before the harsh winter moves in.
Therefore, it is easier to get a vista to the Mt.Qomolangma on a clear day in spring at Tingri County, where the mountain is located in.
The base camp of the Mt.Qomolangma is located at an altitude of 5,545 meters above sea level and is used when climbing via the northeast ridge. The north base camp has vehicle access (at least in the summer months) through a 100km zigzag road. Climbers typically rest at this base camp for several days in order to acclimate themselves to the high altitude and reduce the risks and severity of altitude sickness.
The weather on the Mt.Qomolangma is notoriously difficult to predict. At night it is generally cooler, while the days are generally warm. Winter (January and February) will be bit colder, but the days can be quite beautiful and warm if the sun comes out.
The summit temperature never rises above freezing or 32° F (0°C). The temperature usually averages at around -33°F (-36°C) in January and -2°F (-19°C) in July, but can suddenly drop to -76° F (-60° C).
There will be bit of snow in January, February, and December, so it is crucial to make sure that you can stay warm and dry in just about any conditions. The weather is truly unpredictable.
The Mt.Qomolangma is located at the border area between China and Nepal. Its northern slope is in China and the southern slope is in Nepal, but the best location to view this majestic mountain from is in China's Tibet.
