2 billion yuan invested in Tibetan livelihoods
People who would like to have Tibet travel always keep an eye on Tibetan livelihoods as well as beautiful scenery. In recent years the life level has been greatly improved for Tibetans. More than 2 billion yuan (315 million US dollars) had been invested to guarantee and improve people's livelihoods in Lhasa, capital of Tibet Autonomous Region, from 2007 to 2011.
In the past five years, 845 million yuan had pumped into the housing project and over 1.19 billion yuan into social security with a year-on-year increase of 32.24%, according to the Lhasa Finance Bureau.
A total of 360,300 million residents have had the social insurance and those above 45 can enjoy free health check-up while the subsistence allowance standard has increased to 360 yuan per person and the rural minimum living subsidy to 1,450 yuan per person.
In addition, the mortality rate of the pregnant women has decreased from 2.23‰ to 1.22‰ and that of the newborn babies from 32.3‰ to 22.3‰ from 2007 to 2011, according to the first session of Lhasa's 10th National People's Congress.
Shokar, a Tibetan mother who gave birth to her first three kids at home and the fourth at hospital, said, "It's free to give birth at hospital and the government also offers some subsidy and children's clothes as rewards."
In the past five years, Lhasa has built 257 public cultural service facilities, two national cultural industry demonstration bases as well as five regional ones, said Dorje Tsegyu, mayor of Lhasa.
Besides, Lhasa has added 24,380 rural jobs with its registered unemployment rate kept below 3%.
