Tibetan Mastiff On Plateau

Tibetan Mastiff

The Tibetan mastiff originates from China’s Qinghai and Tibet regions. Being considered to be one of the oldest precious breeds in the world, it may be the ancestor of many large mastiff breeds in the European continent, said by many researchers.
Thanks to its thick hair, which could prevent it from cold and freezing wind, Tibetan mastiff can sleep even in ice and snow. Being capable of watching over hundreds of sheep and defeating 3 wolves, it is often hostile to strangers or enemies. However, it’s all too often extremely intimate with its owner. “Loyalty” has become a symbol of Tibetan mastiff. In ancient times, it is owned only by the noble in Tibet, representing the purity of blue blood.
In Tibet, Tibetan mastiff has another name called “heavenly dog”. From local people’s point of view, Tibetan mastiff is the dog sent by the God to protect people and animals in Tibet. It is said that a long time ago, Tibet was covered with snow and ice. People had no food, and had nothing to feed their herds. Eventually one day, a God came and relieved people from these sorrow and pain. What the God rode it the legendary Tibetan mastiff.
Recently, a 8-month-old Tibetan mastiff called Biyue gave birth to 14 puppies in Sept.. “Biyue is really a hero mother”, said her master, who visited about 30 Tibetan mastiff kennels to find a suitable mate for her.
