Life at Tibet border town

Zhangmu is a border town at Chinese-Nepal Border, very close to Kathmandu, capital of Nepal. Every day, thousands of tourists and traders are entering and leaving southwest China's Tibet through this border town. Life at the Tibet border town written by local residents, travelers and traders is not busy as big cities, but interesting.

Zhangmu has played an important role in political, economic and cultural exchanges between the two countries since it was built.

The residents in Zhangmu mostly take up border trade, traveling through the Nepal-China border bridge, also known as the Friendship Bridge to purchase goods with unique Nepalese features in Nepal and resell them in Zhangmu.

The locals have enjoyed a relatively well-off life over the past 10 years through import and export trade.

This litter border witnessed a 1.6 million revenue from import and export trade in 2011, including 1.5 million made by border residents, cited from a Xinhua report.

Most tourists travelling from Lhasa to Kathmandu or Kathmandu to Lhasa would stay at least a night at Zhangmu. Tourism also contributes to the economy of this border town.
