During summer, wild yaks, blue sheep, Mongolian wild asses, foxes, black bears, water deer, marmot, hares and other wild animals leisurely look for food along the expansive lake shores; countless migratory birds fly here to lay eggs and raise their squabs; sometimes lovely fishes in the lake jump out of water to enjoy the warmth of the sunshine; sheep and cows herds are like flowing white blanks on the green grassland which can stretch as far as your eyes can see; the dulcet songs of Gauchos resound through the valleys. The sunrise and sunset, and the night sky at the Namtso Lake are extremely amazing. It is best to stay at least one night at the Namtso Lake to enjoy different sights there in a day. Trek around the lake in early morning or in the evening is considered as the highlight of a Namtso tour. But it is best to prepare some warm clothes and bring enough water. It is easy to get altitude sickness and get cold as the Namtso Lake is 1,100m higher than Lhasa city.
The Namtso Lake is located at northwest of Lhasa, about 200 km from there, but there are no direct buses to the Namtso Lake. Tourists can hire a taxi or a mini bus from Lhasa to the Namtso Lake.
