Aid-Tibet tour guide: 'I’m glad to serve plateau'
As one member of the group consisting of 100 Tibet tour guides picked for volunteering working in China’s southwest Tibet Autonomous Region, Liu Menggang is very experienced for he has joined to team three times due to his love to the plateau.
The photos in Tibet always remind Liu of the days he has spent in the plateau. "I made a lot of friends in Tibet, from home and abroad, and we are still in touch, they send me cards during festivals. It is a treasure for my life."Liu said during an interview of his three time volunteering experiences to Tibet as a tour guide.
In 2006, Liu was chosen from the 20 thousand candidates in a nationwide aid-Tibet program organized by the National Tourism Bureau. He was thrilled by the news; however, when arriving in Tibet, he suffered from altitude sickness, headache, vomit, insomnia.
Liu worked hard on rehearsing and reciting related tour guiding words. "I have to, because most of the spots in Tibet are monasteries which own a long time history and culture. I must make sure that my interpretation is accurate," he said.
He made full use of his spare time to study more about the Tibet Autonomous Region including its history, culture, religion and folklores. Liu’s efforts rewarded him. At the end, tourists were very satisfied with his service, appraising his service excellent.
In 2007 and 2009, Liu volunteered again to Tibet as an experienced aid-Tibet tour guide. He said it an honor to serve Tibet "Tibet teaches me sincerity, inclusiveness; I will remember this experience for ever".
Every year from 2003, the national Tourism Bureau will pick 100 tour guides to Tibet for during the Tibet’s peak tourism season (April15th –October 15th)to meet the badly need of tourists in such a season, and this project will last for 10 consecutive years.
