Tibet to Invest Over 3 billion RMB in Road Construction
Tibet will invest about 3.11 billion yuan in three years to construct 13,385 km of rural roads and provide convenient and safe Tibet travel conditions for 669 administrative villages, according to Transport Department of Tibet Autonomous Region.
Limited by harsh natural conditions and weak economic foundation, Tibet's rural road facilities have been in a backward state. In order to improve the travel conditions of the farmers and herdsmen, Tibet has implemented a rural road construction project.
According to statistics, as of October 2011, the cumulative rural road projects have achieved 1,632 with a total investment of 11.049 billion yuan. The 39234.4 km of new highways has solved the Tibet traffic problems in the 231 townships and towns and 2550 villages. At present, rural roads have covered all of the townships and towns and 89.98 percent of administrative villages.
There are 714 administrative villages still inaccessible to roads in Tibet. The regional Transport Department strives to carry out road construction projects in 411 villages in 2012, 258 villages in 2013 and the rest in 2014.
