All Tibetan monks and nuns enjoy social insurance
All registered monks and nuns above 18 in Tibet Autonomous Region are called to take part in the social pension insurance and basic medical insurance system, according to the recently released methods on social insurance for local monks and nuns.
Monks and nuns in the monasteries are advised to participate in social insurance program at their own will, without any limitations on residence registration.
The interim provisions, to be implemented officially from January 1, 2012, regulate that monks and nuns pay annual insurance fee to enjoy the urban social pension benefits.
For social pension participating monks and nuns, the regional government will provide 12 tiers of special subsidies from RMB 30 to RMB 85 every year.
Monks and nuns who are already above 60 when registering for social insurance will receive basic pension benefits without having to pay at all.
And for participants from officially recognized model monasteries, the government will also provide further incentive subsidies respectively to encourage monks and nuns to behave in the interests of the public and the social harmony.
The provisional methods stipulate that all processes involved in social insurance participation for monks and nuns, inclusive of fee payment, accounting, benefits, fund management and service, will be handled strictly following the current relevant policies of the region.
