Overview

What Makes this Tibet Trip Different?

Master Kungga Dundruk

Touring from Xining to Lhasa is one of the most beautiful routes you can take to the plateau, and the train journey lets you explore more of the plateau region than you can by flying in. You can also explore one of the least-visited cities in China for international tourists, Xining. This ancient city on the edge of the world’s highest plateau is often ignored as a tourist destination, but has some amazing sights to see, and is the best jumping-off city for trains to Tibet.

This amazing 15-day tour from Kuala Lumpur is an epic adventure that takes you from southern China to the exotic capital of the Newari region of Nepal, Kathmandu. An adventure that encompasses the entire Tibetan plateau and the mighty Himalayas, this is one trip that overland explorers from Malaysia should not miss.

The trip starts with your flight from Kuala Lumpur to the Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport, where you will spend the first two days exploring the famous Canton Tower and the Chimelong Safari Park, and enjoying one of the world’s last real circuses. Then it is off to Xining in Qinghai Province by flight for your sightseeing tour of the Ta’er Monastery & Dongguan Mosque, before boarding the overnight train to Lhasa.

In the Tibetan capital, you can discover the ancient wonders of the Jokhang Temple and the Potala Palace, before heading out to travel overland all the way to Nepal. The trip across the plateau takes you through Gyantse and Shigatse, exploring monasteries and mountains as you make your way to the Everest Base Camp. After departing from the world’s highest mountain, you cross the border into Nepal and travel to the capital. There, in the Kathmandu Valley, you can explore the ancient Hindu and Buddhist temples and stupas that sit side-by-side in this multicultural heartland of the Newari People, the “real” Nepal.
