So travelers can spend one night at Syabrubesi (2380m) and Kyirong town (2700m) respectively for the border crossing. And slowly travel to Shigatse (4000m). What’s about the road condition between Kathmandu and Lhasa?

Overall, the road condition is superb, esp. as you enter Tibet from Kathmandu and drive all the way to Shigatse and Lhasa. You can enjoy the newly-built asphalt road along the way. Whereas, most of the bumpy roads occur in mountainous regions (around 10km) of Nepal bordering Tibet. The treacherous road along steep cliff will give you the adrenaline rush.

Meanwhile, since awful lots of winding roads and sometimes up to 9-10 hours of driving are involved, it’s advisable to bring the motion sickness pills or download podcasts just in case you might need it.

Will you be staying overnight at EBC?

Well, the extreme altitude of EBC (5200m) would be too high for the travelers to spend the night there. So, after a brief exploration at EBC and Rongbuk Monastery, you will be heading to Tingri (4800m) for the overnight. Besides, the accommodation is much better than that of EBC.

If you have a Chinese Visa, is it enough for Kathmandu to Lhasa tour?

Nope, it’s not enough. You need to get a Tibet Permit and a China Group Visa for entering Tibet from Nepal. You can email the photos of your passport and Chinese visa to our travel consultant to apply for Tibet Permit. While the China Group Visa, you have to apply for it with your original passport after you land in Kathmandu. The processing of it takes at least 3 business days and our Nepali staff will help you.

What is the most ideal time for the Kathmandu to Lhasa tour?

Since the monsoon season of Nepal in summer often leads to landslide and muddy roads at border regions, so the most ideal time is March to May and Oct to Nov. The offseason from Nov to early Feb is also an option for budget-minded travelers, like students.
