When you picture Tibet, images of towering mountains, vast plateaus and prayer flags fluttering in the wind likely come to mind. For me, it became much more than that — it was a journey filled with wonder, warmth and a few surprises along the way.
I discovered Tibet Travel after hours of Googling, comparing companies and reading reviews. What really won me over was the sheer number of positive experiences people had shared.
It gave me confidence that I was booking with a team that not only knew what they were doing but truly cared about their travelers. Spoiler alert: I was not disappointed.
This wonderful Tibet journey start with Tibet Vista’s responsive service
From the beginning, Tibet Vista were responsive and incredibly helpful. They offered several tour options based on our dates and preferences and worked with us to tailor something that fit perfectly.
One of the more stressful parts of organizing a trip to Tibet is securing train tickets and Tibet travel permits, but they handled everything seamlessly.
I was kept informed throughout, especially when confirming the Tibet train tickets - a detail that could have easily slipped through the cracks with another company.
An Epic Train Ride to Lhasa: Stunning Views, a Health Scare, and a Smooth Arrival
Our adventure began in Beijing, where we boarded a two-night Tibet train journey across the Tibetan Plateau. It was long, yes, but also unforgettable. Watching the scenery transform hour by hour was mesmerizing.
Snowstorms swept over distant mountains, wild landscapes rolled past our window, and we were constantly glued to the view. The train menu was a bit of a challenge to navigate, but that became part of the fun.
We did have a scare early on when my partner fainted due to altitude sickness. Thankfully, the train staff were incredibly helpful and attentive. After a bit of rest and some time to acclimatize, he was back to his usual self by the time we arrived in Lhasa.

Transport from the station was easy - we were met promptly and taken to our hotel without any fuss. The hotel itself was centrally located, clean and warm, which made for a very comfortable stay.
Lhasa Surprised Me: Kind People, Amazing Places, But Please Take It Slow
Now, Lhasa tour. What a surprise. I had expected something more rugged, but the city was clean, modern and full of character.
Barkhor Street.
The streets felt safe, the Tibetan people were warm and welcoming, and the atmosphere had a quiet kind of energy that’s hard to describe. You could feel the spirituality in the air, and yet there was a calm, grounded vibe to everything.
Altitude sickness in Tibet is no joke, though. While we were lucky not to be too affected in Lhasa, I can’t stress this enough: take it slow.
Walk gently, especially upstairs, and give your body time to adjust. It makes all the difference. If you’re prone to altitude sickness, take any recommended medication early.
Communication was excellent throughout the tour. Our guide kept us always informed of the schedule, and the overall pace of the trip was well thought out - nothing felt rushed or overwhelming.
Our Tibetan guide Tashi.
Our Tibetan guides, whose name now feels etched into the memory of the trip, was exceptional. Knowledgeable, kind and endlessly patient, they brought every location to life with stories, context and a clear love for their homeland.
The places we visited were nothing short of incredible:
● Drepung Monastery – a sprawling site nestled in the mountains, full of hidden corridors and deep history.
● Sera Monastery – famous for its monk debates, which were a highlight. Watching them energetically challenge one another with such enthusiasm was something I won’t forget.
● Potala Palace – even more majestic in person than in photos. Climbing to the top was a challenge, but the views and atmosphere were worth every breath.
● Jokhang Temple and Barkhor Street – the spiritual heart of Lhasa, buzzing with locals, pilgrims and travellers alike.

Tastes of Tibet and Heartfelt Moments: A Journey Beyond Expectations
Another highlight was exploring the local food scene. Navigating restaurants with limited English could have been daunting, but the kindness of the Tibetan people made it enjoyable.
They were always willing to help, whether through gestures, smiles or Google Translate. I had the best hot pot experience of my life and developed a real taste for yak meat!
What started as a dream trip turned into something more meaningful than I ever expected. The beauty of Tibet isn’t just in its landscapes, but in its people, its pace and its perspective.
While Lhasa was a wonderful introduction, I left with the feeling that there's so much more to explore in Tibet. One day, I hope to return and venture deeper into the region - to see more villages, Everest Base Camp and more of that magical stillness that Tibet offers.
Until then, I’ll carry the memories with me: of snow-covered peaks, peaceful monasteries, friendly faces and that quiet moment of realization that travel, at its best, opens your heart as much as your eyes.

Tips for Future Travelers:
1. Since a permit is required to visit Tibet, it's essential to use a reputable agency like Tibet Travel.
2. The weather can be deceptive. During the day, the sun is quite warm, but temperatures drop quickly after sunset. Pack layers so you're prepared for the change.
3. Have Google Translate (or similar) handy but be prepared to get creative if you don’t have reception. Stay calm and respectful - not everyone speaks English, and that’s okay.
4. If you’re concerned about altitude sickness, start medication early and give your body time to adjust.
5. Be open, be patient and enjoy every moment of this incredible place.
