Our Amazing Tibet Trip with Tibet Vista: A Smooth Family Adventure from Start to Finish

In April 2024, our Belgian family of four (husband, wife, and two sons aged 12 and 14) decided to undertake a journey to Tibet, attracted by its rich culture and stunning natural landscapes. Our search for a reliable tour operator led us to Tibet Vista.

Following some preliminary research, we contacted Sal from Tibet Vista via email to discuss possible itineraries. A Chinese acquaintance of ours confirmed the legitimacy of the website.

Our Tibet Tour Begins with a Warm Conversation with Representative Sal

By mid-May, we held a video call with a Tibet Vista representative via WhatsApp to explore different travel options. After careful consideration, we chose not to include a visit to Mount Everest Base Camp, as it would have required two days of extensive travel. We prioritized accommodation with high hygiene standards and private bathrooms, requesting two rooms close to each other to stay near our sons.

A Smooth Start and Warm Welcome to Our Wonderful Tibet Trip

The representative from Tibet Vista efficiently guided us through the process of obtaining the necessary travel documents. Since we were staying in China for less than 15 days, we did not require a visa, and the application process for the Tibet travel permits was straightforward.

Tibet Vista organized all aspects of our trip, including hotels, the internal flight to Lhasa, a guide, entry to all attractions, and train tickets from Lhasa to Chengdu. We planned to spend six days in Tibet, followed by a train journey from Lhasa to Chengdu for an additional three days.

Upon arrival at Chengdu airport, Tibet Vista arranged a convenient hotel within the airport complex, allowing us to collect our Tibet Travel Permit easily. The next day, we took an internal flight from Chengdu to Lhasa, where we were greeted by a Tibetan representative at the airport. Once the group was complete, we proceeded to our centrally located hotel in Lhasa, near the Potala Palace.

The group tour commenced the following day. In the hotel lobby, we met our guide, Jigme, along with our fellow travelers—a diverse mix of individuals from Thailand, Spain, the United States, and South Korea. Initially reserved, we quickly established a good rapport with the group, appreciating the quiet and respectful nature of the participants.

An Excellent Local Tibetan Tour Guide Ensures a Caring and Seamless Journey

Jigme, a knowledgeable Tibetan guide with excellent English, provided in-depth information about the various temples we visited. He managed all passport checks at temple entrances and hotels, ensuring a smooth process throughout our trip. The minibus we traveled in was comfortable, with adequate legroom, and Jigme ensured regular stops for restroom breaks and to stretch our legs.

The bus was stocked with water and portable oxygen tanks. Each day, Jigme informed us of the next day’s schedule, always maintaining punctuality. A designated driver handled the bus transport.

We remained in contact with Sal from Tibet Vista via WhatsApp, who regularly checked in to ensure our trip was proceeding as planned. For the final two days in Tibet, we enjoyed a private family tour, including a hike in the hills around Lhasa with a different, equally knowledgeable guide, who had previously summited Mount Everest.
