Finally, after more than three years of planning, dreaming, and yearning to explore the majestic landscapes and rich culture of Tibet, our long-awaited journey was about to begin.
Our excitement was palpable as we stepped off the plane and were warmly welcomed at Lhasa Airport by the friendly representatives from Tibet Vista.
They greeted us with a traditional hada, a ceremonial white scarf symbolizing purity and goodwill, usually given to guests upon arrival.
Immersing in Lhasa’s Sacred Wonders: Monasteries, Palaces, and Profound Spirituality
The first day started with the visits of the two most important monasteries of Lhasa, Drepung and Sera. Our tour guide Tenzin was very detailed in the description of the history and traditions of the monasteries. The visit to the Potala Palace is scheduled for later to prevent altitude sickness, as the palace sits at a higher elevation and requires climbing stairs.

We even managed to attend the famous debate ceremony, in which young monks perform in the art of debating the Holy Scriptures of Tibetan Buddhism.

The next day we visited the Potala palace, climbing the stairs until the very top of it, admiring the stupas of the previous Dalai Lamas, notably the 7th and the 8th. The Potala palace was really a realization of a dream, the sight from above of all the city was extremely emotional for us.

Later, we made our way to the Jokhang Temple, the most revered public temple in Tibet. Here, we joined the throngs of devotees as we circled the temple's core, following the clockwise path intended to purify our souls.

As we spun the sacred prayer wheels, we could feel the weight of centuries of prayers being released into the atmosphere, a tangible reminder of the deep spiritual devotion that permeates Tibetan culture.
Ascending to New Heights: Conquering Mountain Passes and Experiencing Authentic Tibetan Hospitality
During the following two days, our journey began to be even stronger and challenging. We started climbing even more, passing from 3600 meters on the sea level in Lhasa to almost 5000 to the mountain passes coles to Karola glacier.

The Karola glacier is a massive glacier halfway between Lhasa and the city of Shigatse at almost 7000 on the sea level. During our journey, we were treated to a traditional Tibetan lunch at a local family's home, a true highlight of our experience.
Tibetan Streets are full of locals and foreign tourists.
The meal consisted of hearty yak meat, fresh vegetables, and the rich, buttery tea that Tibetans are known for. This meal not only fueled our bodies but also gave us a glimpse into the everyday lives of Tibetan families, making our journey all the more authentic.
From Shigatse to Namtso Lake: A Journey Through Ancient Monasteries and Breathtaking Natural Landscapes
We ended up reaching the city of in the late evening, Shigatse. Shigatse is the hometown of Tashi Lhumpo monastery, base of the Panchen Lama, of the most important Lamas of Tibetan Buddhism. There we visited all the halls and roof of the monastery, and we observed the fervent worshiping of followers.

Our last part of the trip included a visit to the Namtso Lake in the northern area. Namtso lake is a sacred natural reserve in the northern area of Lhasa region. There, we took a picture with wild white yaks at the shores of the lake, admiring the high peaks on the opposite side. This is one of the highlights of our ten-day Mount Everest and Namtso tour.

Their presence adding a touch of wild beauty to the tranquil landscape. The same day we paid a visit to Tsurphu Monastery, home of the Karmapa Lama, the black hat Lama and we pass through Chimelong Nunnery, the only female monastery we visited during our journey.
Praying flags are flying in the wind.
Here we attended to the sky burial, the traditional funeral of Tibetan people. I have to say it was really impressive to see how Tibetans worship death and I did not expect to have the chance to experience such an event.
