The Ultimate Highlight of My Tibet Tour: Mt. Kailash (KANG RINPOCHE) Kora

Trekking on the valley of Mt. Kailash pilgrimage route among the imposing mountains on both sides make one feels insignificant and very small. You are just one little tiny dot moving along the vast mountainous landscape. Somehow psychologically, you perceive the almighty Kailash is up there watching your every steps you take while doing the kora.

The moment you completed the 3 days trek, even though you are a nonbeliever, quietly you get to feel a sense of inner divine jubilation. The faithful Tibetan took at least 3 physical enduring weeks to patiently prostrating full body on the ground, one at a time round the same kora route.

When you meet them, they will smile radiantly into your eyes making you feel less strenuous thinking about how much longer your pair of exhausting feet will haul you to the next destination, while struggling to inhale the faint oxygen at more than 4,500 meters.

You will never get lost along the prominent kora route in the wide-open space. Just follow the one ahead of you. Many walk alone at their own phase without their guide. Everyone is very helpful if you need any assistance as there are Tibetans doing the kora too, as well as local porters, all heading to the same destination.

From Simple Meals to Rustic Toilets: A Journey Where Nature and Adventure Outshine Every Discomfort

Food may not be palatable if you are fussy with simple rice or noodle dishes on most occasion in local restaurants enroute. Tibetan Mo-mo and Tibetan sweet tea are the food of everyday. A member of our group got creative by “stealing” extra breakfast hard-boiled eggs, in case lunch is not agreeable at small township eating house.

He is our egg-man in the tour van and generous too. Public toilet is a living challenge once you are out of the hotel luxury. They are antiquity in design for rural use and be prepared to go nature if situation permit.

Somehow after soaking in the spectacular pristine landscapes, you will overcome every discomfort you encountered. An awe-inspiring wonderful Tibet tour to remember. One bucket list checked.
