A Dream Realized After 3 Years of Waiting: Our Unforgettable Journey to Tibet

Written by Cecy Palada 0 COMMENTS

I’m an avid traveler drawn to unique, mystical, and remote places that offer a sense of wonder and discovery. Tibet - this Himalayan wonder has been on my bucket list for as long as I can remember.

I first discovered Tibet through travel shows and documentaries and later through stories shared by friends who had been there. Planning our trip to Tibet began in earnest as soon as my husband and I retired from civil service.

The planning process is always fun, from reading travel blogs and imagining the adventures ahead, mapping out an itinerary and picking the dates, to finding tour operators that fit our travel style and budget.

Join our 8 days Lhasa to Everest Base Camp tour to uncover the essence of Tibet.

From Delays to a Dream Come True: Our Tibet Journey with Tibet Vista

Tibet Vista kept appearing in my Google searches - a name that consistently popped up whenever I searched for reputable Tibet tours and their reviews made them stand out.

What made us choose Tibet Vista was their wide range of flexible small group tours, reasonable prices, and glowing reviews from other travelers. With much excitement and anticipation we booked to travel in March 2020 but sadly, the pandemic happened.

We chose to leave our deposit with Tibet Vista with the expectation that the world will reopen the following year and travel restrictions will be lifted and all will be back to normal. Unfortunately, expectations were shattered and we had to wait much longer for Tibet to reopen.

Alas in September 2025 our dream trip to Tibet was realized. After years of uncertainty and longing, finally setting foot on this land of spiritual heritage and cultural purity felt even more meaningful and surreal.

A Seamless Journey Thanks to Exceptional Service: Gratitude to Kristin and Lhadup

Special thanks to KRISTIN, Senior Trip Advisor at Tibet Vista for crafting an itinerary that allowed us to also visit Beijing, Xian, and Nepal, handling all the details that made our trip seamless from beginning to end.

From securing Tibet travel permits and Tibet train tickets, coordinating with guides and drivers, scheduling pickups and drop-offs, booking hotel accommodations, sending important reminders, etc.

The logistics and integration of services were handled smoothly and effortlessly without problems or delays. We truly appreciated Kristin’s dedication and positive attitude - she always responded to our emails promptly and reassured us that everything was going smoothly.

Many thanks to our Tibetan tour guide, LHADUP, for his guidance, knowledge, and helpfulness. While we sometimes struggled to fully understand his explanations in English, we appreciated his patience and effort to repeat and clarify, making sure we grasped the essence of his narratives.

From sharing stories of local life, guiding us through sacred places with care, pointing out hidden gems, explaining local culture and cuisine, serving butter tea, finding the perfect souvenirs, taking Instagram-worthy photos, making sure we didn’t miss the cultural highlights even with limited time, like the monks’ debates at Sera Monastery - who knew debating could be so full of life?

Unforgettable Moments: Spiritual Encounters, High-Altitude Challenges, and the Road to EBC

Watching the Tibetan monks’ lively exchange was unforgettable. Their rhythmic claps, loud arguments, and bursts of laughter brought philosophy to life.

Climbing the steps up to Potala Palace was a challenge on our first day as we were still getting used to the high altitude, thank goodness we had an ample supply of oxygen canisters.

The sight of countless Buddha statues inside Temples and Monasteries was both overwhelming and deeply fascinating. Seeing the devotion of pilgrims through their prostrations at Jokhang Temple was truly humbling.

Tibetan prayer wheels turning, chants echoing, and prayer flags fluttering in the wind were all deeply mesmerizing.

The 8 days tour from Lhasa to Shigatse to EBC was nothing short of spectacular, winding roads revealing the most vivid turquoise lakes and majestic peaks. Our mini bus was clean and comfortable with seat belts and adequate ventilation. Availability of charging ports would’ve been ideal.

Kudos to our driver who kept us safe and on schedule. Reaching Everest Base Camp without the ordeal of long, exhausting treks through cold, thin air was a welcome relief especially for us seniors.

We loved the combination of the overland travel and short hikes, which followed a gradual-ascent route that allowed us to acclimate comfortably. We appreciated the measured pace of our hikes taking into consideration the wellbeing of everyone in our group.

Lhadup’s experience, patience, and assistance kept us all safe, happy, and well. We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of our hotels in Tibet—clean and well-appointed with Western conveniences.

A Surprising Comfort at EBC: Gratitude to Tibet Vista for Making Our Dream Journey Possible

Even more surprised with our “tented” accommodation at the Everest Base Camp. We didn’t expect actual comfy beds with heated blankets and thick quilts and quality sheets, slippers, and WiFi access, in a private room that was nice and clean. Breakfast in all the traditional hotels we stayed in were decent and plentiful.

Breakfast at the EBC, however, was not good. Thank you TIBET VISTA for organizing this tour package for us. This Himalayan vacation that was years in the making wouldn’t have been possible without the wonderful people who helped bring it to life.

We have already recommended you to family and friends and we wish your company more success and good blessings. The sights and sounds of Tibet will stay with us forever, etched in memory like a vivid dream.
