From Lhasa to Everest Base Camp via Shigatse: A Trip Forever Remembered in My Life

My name is Ricardo, and I’m from Brazil. I found Tibet Vista through their website and later on WeChat. The travel agent was always very kind and patient in our conversations.

I decided to take the 8-day tour Lhasa to Everest Base Camp tour. From my arrival to my departure, both the guide and the driver were always helpful and attentive. They all helped me fulfill a long-time dream: to visit Tibet.

The Soul and Spiritual Beauty of Tibet

This region is incredible because it is truly unique in the world. We can see ancient Tibetan monasteries that preserve centuries of Buddhist study and practice. I was deeply touched by the architecture, the sculptures, the stupas, the frescoes, and the art in general. They convey feelings of love, compassion, and empathy — values that are central to Buddhist philosophy but also universal, shared by people of all religions and even non-believers.

The devotion expressed by the local people is inspiring and reminds us that it is possible to believe in a better world. In every corner, on the walls and carved rocks of the mountains, we find sacred art that transmits peace and hope for a harmonious world.

Magnificent Landscapes from Lhasa to Everest Base Camp

The trip to Everest Base Camp in Tibet was also unforgettable because of the magnificent landscapes. We could contemplate mountains, glaciers, and lakes with shades of blue so stunning they brought tears to my eyes. It felt as if I were looking at digitally enhanced photos — but they were completely real. The contrast between the sun, the clouds, the mountains, the lakes, and the sky is something that can be seen only in very few places on Earth.

During one of our stops, we could see and take photos with some animals native to Tibet: the Tibetan mastiff and the yak. Yaks are extremely important to Tibetan life, as they provide milk that is used to make traditional butter and tea.

Standing at the foot of Mount Everest, we could truly feel that we were in one of the most special places in the world. I could only admire the snowy peak and dream that one day I might climb it.

Everest Travel Experience: Altitude, Climate, and Thoughtful Support

Two aspects of the trip can be challenging for travelers: the high altitude and the moderate cold. Once we reach altitudes above 3,000 meters, some people may experience symptoms of altitude sickness.

I was impressed by how well Tibet Vista prepared us for this. The buses are equipped with oxygen tanks, and at the EBC we received personal oxygen bottles. In my group, everyone seemed to cope well with the elevation.

As for the temperature, I visited Tibet in July, when it ranges from around 20°C during the day to about 6°C at night. At EBC, it can drop to zero degrees. Personally, I didn’t have any problems with the cold, but some Brazilians might find it difficult.

My advice for other Brazilian travelers — or anyone sensitive to cold — is that winter clothing in China is much cheaper than in Brazil, often costing around 70% less. So it’s a good idea to buy a proper winter coat before going to Tibet. Also, the traditional Tibetan butter tea works wonderfully to keep you warm.

On the last day of the trip, we went to a restaurant. I thought it would be a simple meal, but to my surprise, it turned into a celebration of traditional Tibetan music and dance, featuring colorful costumes and unique instruments. It was a perfect way to end such a meaningful journey.

the Heart of Tibetan Culture: Beyond Just Sightseeing

More important than simply seeing beautiful places and taking photos, the essence of this trip was to feel the soul of Tibet.

Visiting the Potala Palace and Jokhang Temple allowed me to experience these incredible world heritage sites as living expressions of culture and spirituality. Seeing a young monk carrying his sacred book in Tashilhunpo Monastery reminded me that there are people working every day to keep this heritage alive. This contact offers a perspective very different from that of a Western visitor like me — one that expands our understanding of life and spirituality.

One of the highlights of the journey was walking through the streets of Lhasa, where the mixture of traditional Tibetan life and modern elements coexist in harmony. Pilgrims circumambulate around the Jokhang Temple spinning their prayer wheels, while young Tibetans chat in cafés and markets full of colors and aromas. This contrast between the ancient and the modern shows that Tibet is not only a place of the past, but also a living culture adapting to the present without losing its spiritual essence.

An Unforgettable Journey: Eagerly Awaiting the Next Kailash Adventure

This journey from Lhasa to Everest Base Camp in Tibet will remain engraved in my heart for the rest of my life. For travelers who wish to experience a place where history, culture, art, landscape, and adventure come together, Tibet is a must-visit destination.

I hope to return someday to visit Mount Kailash and other regions that were not part of my itinerary — and I would certainly choose Tibet Vista again for that experience.
