We love to travel. We have travelled to 100+ countries. One of the most fascinating destinations is Tibet, especially Lhasa and the Himalaya with the Everest Base Camp.

Planning Our Perfect Tibet Adventure: How We Found Tibet Vista

In 2025, we plan to visit Tibet. We look for a trustworthy travel agent that meets our wishes. Searching the Internet, we soon found the agent “Tibet Vista”. They offer combined flexibility with the comfort we like to travel.

The challenge is to gain trust in an agent who is not around the corner to meet. The very positive ratings on TripAdvisor convinced us. The first contact was an informal information exchange with Kristin of Tibet Vista. Kristin provided a very short response with all the details on the journey we were interested in.

With the deep knowledge of Kristin, we knitted a perfect travel bundle. Soon we booked the travel and transferred the first down payment. Kristin provided us with information and asked for patience because the strictly required Tibet Travel Permit was issued by the Tibet Tourism Bureau shortly before the travel.

Our Memorable Journey Starts in Lhasa: Exploring Tibet with Comfort and Care

In October 2025, we started our journey. We booked the flight to Shanghai, and after a short stopover in Lhasa. At Lhasa airport, we were picked up at the gate and brought to the hotel. We stayed at the Shangri-La in Lhasa, which offered excellent service and a reward-gaining restaurant with local specialities, besides international food.

On the first evening, Tibet Vista offered a welcome dinner, which we didn´t join as we were too tired. The guide instructed us for the next day and wished us a relaxing night.

The next days, we were picked up on time with a minibus to explore beautiful Lhasa and the surrounding area. The group was very international, with domestic Chinese travelers and people from the USA, Argentina, New Zealand, Tunisia, and Germany. We soon became closer and had lots of fun in the next few days.

Our concern was the height of Lhasa and the potential challenge with the thin air. The bus had plenty of complimentary oxygen supplies (portable oxygen canisters) and water. In addition, there was a big medical oxygen cylinder in the bus. So, in case somebody needed air, there was more than enough, ensuring a safe and smooth journey.

Discovering Lhasa's Rich Culture: Sacred Monasteries and Timeless Tibetan Traditions

First visit was to Drepung Monastery in Lhasa, and after lunch to Sera Monastery, where we joined an impressive Tibetan monk debate. Our guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. He explained a lot about the culture, the land, and the people of Tibet. He was very open and patiently answered all of our questions.

The next day, we visited the Potala Palace. Once seen, you will never forget this. It is gorgeous. After a typical lunch, we headed for Lhasa's old town and the beautiful Jokhang Temple, which we found to be one of the most beautiful temples in Tibet.

The rest of the day was free, and we took the chance for some souvenir shopping. Lhasa is safe and secure. The Tibetan people are very friendly and interested, and some politely asked us for photos. The evening we spent in the hotel, enjoying a perfect hotpot dish.

Journey to the Roof of the World: From Shigatse to Tibet Everest Base Camp

Now it was time for the Himalaya. Next, we were picked up early and started our journey to Shigatse, which is halfway to the Everest Base Camp (EBC).

The tour was the target. We drove through incredible landscapes, climbed 5.000 meter high passes, over rivers, lakes, and valleys, viewed grazing Tibetan yaks, and all the time our eyes were to the outside (well, I was napping a while).

We went to the house of a Tibetan family for lunch. We used their living room for eating, and grandmother and her daughters were cooking for us. I was very surprised that potatoes are a very common supplement. The taste is not hot or very spicy, and very convenient for a European.

After a comfortable stop at Shigatse, we headed for the Everest Base Camp. After an early pick up, we had ten hours' drive ahead of us, but nobody was tired. It went up and down. Our driver was an expert and drove us safely to our destination. Once we entered the Mount Everest National Park entrance, we had to transfer to a smaller eco-bus for the EBC at around 5,010 meters.

Staying at the World's Highest Hotel: Our Cozy Experience at Rongbuk Hotel

We arrived on a late afternoon. There is a “tent” guesthouse, which is more than a tent and a comfortable stay. We decided to choose an even more comfortable stay and chose the Rongbuk Hotel, as it claims to be the highest hotel in the world.

The rooms were cosy but not very heated (around 14 degrees Celsius), so we needed some of the covers to warm ourselves. In addition, we had sleeping bags, which helped a lot. We had a nice dinner with local food of potatoes, veggies, and some chicken. This came together with tea and some cold beer at an extra charge. The room had oxygen supplies, so everything was prepared for a night during which we slept so well.

Enjoyed the Breathtaking Sunrise at Everest: A Once-in-a-Lifetime Experience

We woke up at 06:00 a.m. to view Mount Everest. And there he stood. No cloud. Direct view to the top, majestic! With a long lens, it was possible to see the summit. Only one thing we can say: breathtaking! This was one of the moments in our lives! We will never miss this moment.

After a small breakfast with tea, toast, and veggies, we visited the Rongbuk monastery. For sure, we took the chance to get a stamp in our passports from the highest postal office in the world.

So it was time to get back to Lhasa. Over Shigatse with a one-night stay, we finally arrived in Lhasa again. Finally, we had a celebration last evening with dinner with the group.

That was the time to say goodbye and head for Shanghai.

Wrapping Up My Unforgettable 8-Day Adventure from Lhasa to Everest Base Camp with Tibet Vista

Overall, this 8-day Lhasa to Everest Base Camp small group tour was perfectly organised by Tibet Vista. No complaints, and Kristin´s support was outstanding. Thanks for making this a lifetime travel.

One last note on perfect service: at Shanghai Airport, I was forced to repack my luggage (strict 23kg check-in). Unfortunately, I packed by accident my Swiss knife in the onboard luggage. This knife was very valuable to me, with lots of memories. Sure this did not make it through the security control.

The security officer asked me if I had contact in China, and I gave Kristin's address. The security officer promised to send my knife to Lhasa. And it happened. I received my knife at the hotel. This would have never happened on a European flight. Unbelievable. Thanks to China security, thanks to Tibet Vista, thanks to Kristin.
