I think the sacred Mount Kailash had been calling me for a while, quietly, from somewhere inside. I first thought about this journey back in 2018. But when my close ones didn’t support the idea, I postponed it, telling myself the timing wasn’t right.
Years passed, and the world itself seemed to pause. But the call remained.
This year, I decided to celebrate my birthday not with people, but beside Kailash itself. I joined the 15-day Mt. Kailash Mansarovar small group tour organized by Tibet Vista, and I couldn’t have asked for a better one. Our guide, Pasang, and driver Sang Jie were calm, kind, and deeply caring. Everything felt safe and well held.

Strength and Friendship Forged during My Mt. Kailash Kora
With the group, we gradually grew closer, especially during the challenging days of the Mt. Kailash Kora, where the physical strain tested our limits. As we made our way along the rugged path, we found strength not only in each other’s words but also in the comforting silence we shared.
During the toughest stretches, sometimes, a gentle pat on the back or a shared smile was all we needed to lift each other’s spirits. As the days passed, this silence became a language of its own, a silent friendship forged through mutual understanding and support.
What started as a group of strangers, each with their own motivations for being on the trek, slowly transformed into a close-knit family. We were united not just by the journey but by the shared feeling of being part of something much larger than ourselves, something sacred, timeless, and truly humbling.
In the midst of the majestic Mt. Kailash and the vast Tibetan landscape, our connection grew stronger, deepened by the silence that spoke volumes.

As I made my way through the rugged terrain of the Mt. Kailash pilgrimage, the weight of the journey began to take on a deeper, more personal meaning.
At the last moment before leaving home, I packed my mother’s old hairbrush. She passed away in 2012, but that small object still carries her presence, the weight of memory and love. I realized I wasn’t just traveling to Kailash, I was bringing with me the unfinished stories, mine and my family’s.
Before reaching the Dolma La Pass (5,630m), the highest pass during the 3-day Mt. Kailash trek, I placed my mother’s hairbrush on a rock in Shiva-tsal, as an offering and a goodbye. It felt right to leave it there and keep walking. The climb itself was hard, the air grew thinner with every step, the stones were icy, my body slow.
When I finally reached the pass, the weight lifted. I felt light, almost happy. I left my personal offerings there, in quiet gratitude.

An Unexpected but Meaningful Encounter on My Mt. Kailash Kora Journey
On the high pass, I met a Chinese traveler.
He shared with me a handful of lungta (small Tibetan prayer flags to spread blessings and good luck), and we threw them into the air together. It was quiet, pure, and joyful, as if the whole mountain was breathing with us.
Then he offered me a piece of chocolate, a reminder that you can stand in the sacred and the earthly at the same time, and that life, after all, can be sweet. We didn’t speak the same language, but in that moment we completely understood each other.

On the third day, my birthday, a sense of happiness arrived quietly, almost unexpectedly. It wasn’t the kind of excitement I’d imagined. It was peace, profound. My legs ached from the trek, the air was thin and hard to breathe, yet in that moment, I felt more alive than ever.
After completing the challenging Mt. Kailash kora, we journeyed on to Lake Manasarovar, a serene and perfect birthday gift. The lake stretched out before me, calm and endless, mirroring the vastness of the sky above.
In its tranquility, I realized that reaching the end of the pilgrimage didn’t matter as much as I thought. The journey itself, with all its challenges, had already brought me the peace I sought.
For the first time in years, I felt truly alive, not just physically, but spiritually, connected to something much greater than myself. This was more than just a birthday; it was a profound reminder of life’s deeper meaning and the quiet strength that comes with truly living in the moment.

Felt Grateful for this Sacred Pilgrimage and Tibet Vista's Seamless Support
Looking back now, I realize how much the sacred Mount Kailash gave me: gifts that I hadn’t fully understood until after the journey.
It taught me patience, the kind that comes from moving slowly and steadily, step by step, through the vast, sacred landscape.
It brought me presence, helping me stay deeply connected to the moment, to the rhythm of my breath, and to the beauty surrounding me.
Most importantly, it reminded me that life speaks softly, often in whispers, and we can only hear it when we embrace the silence and slow down long enough to listen.
Meanwhile, I am profoundly grateful to Tibet Vista for making this transformative journey possible. They managed every detail with such care and efficiency, allowing me to fully immerse myself in the experience, both the outer journey across the Tibetan plateau and the inner journey toward deeper self-awareness.
