While planning my first journey to Tibet, I discovered Tibet Vista by browsing the Internet. It appeared to be the most competitive price-wise while also being professional. After comparing a few tours from different websites, I decided to go with Tibet Vista.
Smooth Tibet Travel Plan with Zoe, My Travel Consultant from Tibet Vista
The planning phase was really smooth. I was assigned Zoe to help me and as a point of contact, and she was great, very helpful, and responsive.
After some back and forth regarding the different options, I opted for the 7-day Lhasa to Kathmandu tour starting on the 11th of September and including the Tibet train (soft sleeper) from Xining on the 9th evening.
This entire phase was very easy; it was great to speak with a real person rather than an automated system, and Zoe always responded very quickly to any questions. I can be quite a planner and tend to worry about details, so I truly appreciated her help and patience.

Start My Journey to Tibet with a Xining to Lhasa Train
Boarding the Tibet train from Xining was very easy. I appreciated having a lower bed so that I could see well from the window. I expected more dramatic views, but it was strange to be so high yet feeling like the place was all flat. There were some beautiful mountains in the distance, but hard to photograph clearly. I did not experience altitude sickness.
Seamless Arrival and Comfortable Travel in Lhasa
Arrival in Lhasa was straightforward. Our Tibetan guide was nice and professional, and showed flexibility to improve our experience, which I really appreciated.
Our driver was great. He was punctual, always very well dressed, and he sang for us on the bus. This was one of my favourite aspects of the trip.
The bus was in excellent condition, so we flawlessly moved from one location to the next. I am used to traveling independently and dealing with logistics constantly, so it was a nice break from that. It was completely stress-free.

Cultural Highlights: Potala Palace and Monk Debates
My favourite place was the Potala Palace. I thought it was magnificent. I loved the size, architecture, colors, and history of it.
My second favourite thing was the Monk’s debate in Sera Monastery, and we were lucky to be able to see two of them (apparently, we visited on a special week for monks’ debates). It was a great snapshot of the culture, and I liked the atmosphere and the way it was performed.

We were lucky to witness a monks’ debate of this scale.
Everest Experience: Views and Reflections
I enjoyed having a fairly clear view of Mount Everest; however, I was slightly disappointed by the Everest Base Camp itself. I had expected a more rugged base for climbers and a closer, more imposing view of the mountain. Instead, the area felt quite touristic - comfortable, but farther from Everest than I had anticipated.
It took a long wait before the clouds finally cleared and Mount Everest came into view.
Scenic Journey to Nepal and Thoughtful Aftercare
Arriving at the Nepali border, I truly enjoyed the scenic drive through lush greenery and waterfalls, with beautiful views of Nepal on the other side - this was definitely a highlight of the journey.
Due to unexpected landslides, the private transport arrangement at the border did not go exactly as planned.
After sharing my experience with Zoe, the team responded promptly and thoughtfully. Their follow-up and refund arrangement were truly appreciated and demonstrated Tibet Vista’s strong commitment to customer care.

Tips and Suggestions for Future Travel to Tibet
For a future visit, I would be more inclined to return for a motorbike journey in Tibet, as it would offer a wilder and more immersive experience.
For future travellers, I would recommend:
- Read on Buddhism before coming to help you understand the explanations provided.
- Manage your expectations regarding Everest Base Camp.
- If paying in a foreign currency at the Nepali border, prepare $5 or 5 euros more, or the border officials will not stamp your passport.
- Expect a shock at the Nepali border in terms of organisation and efficiency after a few days in the Tibet Autonomous Region of China.
- When settling your bill, expect an expensive fee from Alipay/WeChat. Although in Western countries this is considered outrageously high, it is quite normal in many countries, so budget for an extra 4% in the cost.
- Your dedicated travel consultant at Tibet Vista is very helpful and responsive, so don’t hesitate to communicate with them when needed, so that you can be totally stress-free.
