Everest Namtso Lake Tour with Tibet Vista: My 10-day Journey Through Tibet’s Top Highlights

Written by Florian Berhami from Poland 0 COMMENTS

I decided to travel to Tibetat the beginning of 2025. While spending time online, I saw a variety of clips, movies, and pictures of the beautiful scenery of Tibet, and decided to travel to the Roof of the World.

Correspondingly, I started my planning early on and had more than half a year to plan everything.

From the first time I reached out until the last minutes of my stay there, the whole team of Tibet Vista has been extremely helpful.

Over the course of some weeks, I had exchanged enough emails to have my 10-day Lhasa to EBC and Namtso Lake Small Group Tour itself planned, visa clarification, where I would be staying, requirements, what to pack, etc. Gigi, one of the salespeople, was very patient and helpful in those weeks.

Arriving in Lhasa: A Glimpse of Tibet's Pristine Beauty and What to Expect

I arrived in Lhasa in mid-October. The weather was pristine throughout the trip, with clear blue skies and pleasantly warm temperatures whenever the sun was out, which were perfect conditions for taking pictures.

At the Lhasa Gonggar International Airport, I was greeted in the traditional manner with a white scarf. As I was one of the latest arrivals, we waited for one more passenger to arrive and then headed to the hotel in Lhasa,, where we were to spend the following two days.

Immediately upon arrival, you feel a certain light-headedness. Altitude sickness was not as bad as expected; to me, it felt more like an unpleasant headache you get during a day in which you slept badly. One adjusts quickly, however.

Our small group had members who were close to 70 years old in age, as well as early 20s, and did not encounter any problems. I will advise everyone, however, to do extensive and their own independent research on traveling to Tibet.

Explore the Unique Charm of Lhasa: Tradition Meets Modern Life

Lhasa itself is a beautiful city! It is a fascinating mix of deep-rooted tradition and everyday modern life. Tibetan prayer flags line the streets, monks walk past small shops and cafés, and everywhere you look, there is something that reminds you that this place is unlike any other in the world.

The first day’s itinerary is adjusted to help acclimate, so the program was relaxed and well-paced with the historically biggest monasteries, Drepung and Sera. Some of the highlights we got to see were the chanting monks, beautiful murals, and the vibrant Tibetan monk debate at the debating courtyard of Sera Monastery.

Discover Lhasa’s Icons: Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, and the Vibrant Barkhor Street

The highlight of the Lhasa tour is, of course, the Potala Palace. Seeing it in real life after having seen countless pictures online was a completely different experience. The sheer size of the palace, perched high above Lhasa city, is impressive, but even more striking is its historical and cultural significance.

The Jokhang Temple and Barkhor Street go hand in hand. In Barkhor Street, everyone will be walking clockwise, which gives the whole area a hypnotic feeling. Adorned with religious art and objects, the squares felt incredibly alive and authentic.

Souvenir shops are all around. One can find the same souvenir at a wide range of prices, so searching out a shop that is more on the side is well worth it. Even better: Haggle! It is seen as a sport, and a bit of back-and-forth makes the interaction more fun.

Journey to Everest Base Camp: Stunning Landscapes and High Mountain Passes

After our time in Lhasa, we began the journey westwards toward Everest Base Camp. This part of the trip was where the landscapes truly started to open up.

As we left Lhasa city behind, wide valleys, snow-capped mountains, and endless plateaus unfolded in front of us. The drive is quite long, but never boring. We made frequent stops at scenic viewpoints, mountain passes, and small villages, which made the journey itself an essential part of the experience rather than just a way to get from A to B.

Crossing high mountain passes with prayer flags fluttering in the wind was particularly memorable. Each pass felt like a small achievement, especially as the altitude continued to increase.

Our guide explained the significance of the passes and encouraged us to take a moment, breathe, and enjoy the view. Despite being at over 5,000 meters at some points, the group handled it remarkably well. The careful planning of the itinerary really paid off, as nobody struggled seriously with altitude-related issues.

Standing at the Foot of Everest: A Surreal Journey to Tibet Everest Base Camp

Reaching the area around Mount Everest was an emotional moment. It feels surreal to stand there, looking at the highest mountain in the world, knowing how remote and powerful nature is in this part of the planet.

At the Tibet Everest Base Camp (5,010m), the mountain still goes on for 3600 meters more, which is baffling. The night near Everest Base Camp was cold, but one does not feel it because of the modern accommodation at Tibet EBC. I found it particularly commendable that such remote natural places could only be reached by electric mobility (such as eco-Busses).

Discover the Serenity of Holy Lake Namtso: A Hidden Gem in Northern Tibet

The next major highlight of the journey was the heavenly Lake Namtso. Driving toward the lake, the colour of the water slowly came into view, a deep, almost unreal shade of blue.

Surrounded by mountains and open grasslands, Namtso felt peaceful and untouched. The further road towards The Elephant Gate is gruelling, but very rewarding, as you get to see the Nyainqentanglha Mountain range from the north side of the lake.

An Unforgettable Journey with Tibet Vista: Expert Guidance and Lasting Memories

Throughout the journey, the organization and support from the team were consistently excellent. Our guide, Tintin, as we called him, was knowledgeable, attentive, and always ready to answer questions, whether they were about Tibetan culture, daily life, or the practical aspects of traveling at high altitude.

Looking back, the trip exceeded my expectations in every possible way. From the early planning stages to the final day of the journey, everything was handled professionally and thoughtfully.

Tibet itself left a deep impression on me: the vast landscapes, the strong cultural identity, the spirituality, and the warmth of the people all combined into an experience that I will remember for the rest of my life.

Traveling to the Roof of the World was an unforgettable journey that I will forever cherish in my life. I am looking forward to traveling again to Tibet, quite possibly to do the 15-day holy Mount Kailash pilgrimage with Tibet Vista.
