I found Tibet Vista while researching how to travel to Tibet and comparing different companies. I read a lot of reviews and travelers’ experiences, and Tibet Vista really stood out with clear communication, flexible dates, and very well-organized itineraries.
A Birthday Surprise That Turned into a Once-in-a-Lifetime Journey to Tibet
This trip was a very special one for us. It was meant as a surprise for my wife’s 30th birthday — although of course she eventually found out where we were going because of the paperwork of Tibet Travel Permit application.
Still, neither of us expected to be so completely amazed by everything Tibet had to offer. We both fell in love with the region, the landscapes, the people, and the atmosphere. Everything felt magical.
The epic overland journey from Lhasa to Kathmandu is the top choice!
Choosing the Lhasa to Kathmandu Overland Route
We chose the 7-day overland trip from Lhasa to Kathmandu. At first, we thought about returning to Lhasa, but the idea of ending in Nepal sounded perfect, especially since Kathmandu was also a place we had always wanted to visit.

Smooth Planning and Support from Tibet Vista
The preparation process went really smoothly. Our contact at Tibet Vista was super helpful and patient, always giving us detailed information about what to pack and what to expect (especially around Everest). The booking and deposit were easy, and Tibet Vista took care of all the permits and logistics. The only small question we had was about how to collect the permits once in China, but it all worked out perfectly in the end. A person from Tibet Vista gave us the permit at the airport, and we continued our trip.

A Well-Paced Start and Cultural Highlights in Lhasa
Upon arriving in Lhasa, we were welcomed warmly by our guide and driver. The itinerary was well-balanced, giving us time to adjust to the altitude and enjoy every stop without rushing. Altitude was definitely the main challenge, but going slowly and following the guide’s advice helped a lot.
Lhasa itself was incredible, the Jokhang Temple, the Potala Palace, the streets, the people, it all had such a unique energy. Our guide was knowledgeable, funny, and always ready to answer questions, which made the cultural visits even more enjoyable.
The dream of seeing the Potala Palace came true.
Food, Landscapes, and Life on the Tibetan Plateau
I’m a bit of a foodie, so I was really curious to try real Tibetan food. I’ve eaten in a few Tibetan restaurants abroad, but honestly, nothing comes close to the authentic flavour we had there. Every meal felt homemade and comforting, the kind of food that warms you up after a long day in the cold.
The road trip from Lhasa to Everest Base Camp was one of the best parts. The scenery is just unreal - endless valleys, turquoise lakes, and those gigantic snow-covered peaks. There’s something spiritual about driving through that landscape; it makes you feel small but deeply peaceful at the same time.
We were also lucky with our travel group. Over the week, we all became friends - sharing stories, laughs, snacks, and taking photos together. That really made the experience even better; it felt like a little travel family.
And then, the people of Tibet themselves - what an impression they left on us. Everyone we met was kind, welcoming, and always smiling. There’s such calm and warmth in the way they treat visitors. It’s something we’ll never forget.
It could be a lifetime memory to explore Tibet with our wonderful new friends in our group.
Everest Base Camp and the Journey into Nepal
The night in Everest base camp in Tibet was pure magic. Being surrounded by those mountains, with the snow caps glowing under the sky - it’s probably the most beautiful mountain scenery we’ve ever seen in our lives. It felt like we were on top of the world, completely disconnected from everything else.
The next day, we started our drive to China/Nepal border. When reaching the border, the drive to Kathmandu afterward was long (about 10–11 hours because of the road conditions in Nepal), but it was all part of the adventure, and honestly, we didn’t mind, the landscape is beautiful.
We were waiting for a clear view of Mount Everest at the base camp.
Final Thoughts, Tips, and a Stress-Free Experience
From start to finish, Tibet Vista made everything easy, from start to finish. Their support, organization, and kindness were exceptional. We had zero stress, just pure enjoyment.
If I had to give advice to future travelers: pack light, bring warm clothes, and take your time to acclimate. You’ll enjoy the trip so much more that way.
For us, this was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience - the kind of trip that stays in your heart. We can’t wait to go back one day.
