An Unforgettable Odyssey: My 5-Day Adventure Through Tibet with Tibet Vista

Tibet was on my bucket list for a long time but I was not decided yet when I started doing research online. I knew that in Tibet you can only go with an organized tour. I came across Tibet Vista and I sent a message from the website.

Shortly after Lycoris contacted me with more details. She checked in with me a couple of times and when I finally decided to visit I contacted her to book the tour. Lycoris is very quick to reply and she gave me all the details I needed.

Seamless Planning and Smooth Arrival: My Journey from Chengdu to Lhasa

I booked the flight and accommodation in China and then I applied for a Chinese Visa. Once ready, I sent the details to Lycoris so she can help with the Tibet travel permit. All went smoothly and I was ready to start my trip!

Tibetan MonasteryTibetan monasteries are typically built on elevated ground, featuring multi-tiered structures with whitewashed walls, golden roofs.

I installed Wechat app and it proved to be very useful to communicate with Lycoris, the driver, the tour guide, everyone. I arrived in Chengdu and the next day the Tibet permit arrived at my hotel, as expected. After a few days I flew from Chengdu to Lhasa, my flight was a bit delayed but it was OK.

At arrival, the driver waited for me but he had to wait for another 3 travelers for 2h. He offered me the option to take a taxi to the hotel if I don’t want to wait but I would need to pay for it myself. I chose this because I was quite tired.

Overcoming Challenges: Cash Troubles, Altitude Sickness, and Helpful Tips for Tibet Travelers

When we arrived at the hotel, my payment apps didn’t work and I didn’t have any cash so I was in a difficult situation. The hotel staff refused to help, even asked me to move away from the front desk.

I messaged Lycoris to ask her if possible for her to pay the taxi driver and I can pay her once I figure out how to do it. She was super kind to help me and I am so thankful. After this I was able to use an ATM and take out cash and the next day I gave the money to the tour guide and he transferred to Lycoris.

I strongly encourage travellers to bring some cash to have just in case the apps don’t work. After a few hours I started having a headache because of the altitude sickness, this is expected when reaching Tibet.

What I found later on is you shouldn’t take a shower shortly after arrival as it doesn’t help with the sickness and also you can buy oxygen tanks and they help. I only used the oxygen tank in the evening before sleeping but there were others using during day tours too.

Immersing in Tibetan Culture: Monasteries, Potala Palace, and Practical Tips for the Journey

The tours involve a lot of walking but it’s very interesting to find out more about Tibetan culture and religion. I booked a 5 day tour in Lhasa and Yamdrok lake.

First day is the arrival. The second day I met with the tour guide and the other travelers and we visited two monasteries and then had a welcome dinner where we could try yak meat and other dishes while chatting.

Third day we visited the famous Potala Palace and another temple. It’s all described on the website and we had a local tour guide who was very nice and knowledgeable. One thing to mention is the restrooms are very basic everywhere and you should always have tissues with you.

Scenic Yamdrok Lake, Free Time in Lhasa, and Last-Minute Souvenir Shopping

Yamdrok LakeYamdrok Lake, with its brilliant turquoise waters and majestic mountain backdrop, feels like a hidden gem nestled in the heart of Tibet.

Forth day we went to Yamdrok lake, which is a 4h drive (one way) and we had a few other stops too. It’s quite long journey but beautiful views. It’s even higher altitude than Lhasa so oxygen tank is welcome.

Yamdrok LakeYamdrok Lake is believed to hold sacred power and surrounded by awe-inspiring mountain views.

I also had some free time to explore on my own but I shared this time with other travellers in the group, we had nice dinners together. The hotel was located close to the old town so it was beautiful to walk around and many restaurants on the way.

Yamdrok LakeYamdrok Lake holds deep spiritual significance in Tibetan culture, one of the four holy lakes in Tibet.

The last day I had my flight late afternoon so I still had half day to do some souvenir shopping and going to a rooftop cafe with views over the old town. Although the transport from/to airport is included in the tour price, it’s only at certain times.

Yamdrok LakeIn addition to its spiritual significance, its natural beauty is truly breathtaking.

For me the timing was not suitable, so I chose to take taxi again to go back to the airport. When I arrived at the airport, I found out that my flight was cancelled but the airline staff put me on the next flight which was just 2h later and I got back to Chengdu the same day.

Reflecting on this Unforgettable Tibetan Adventure

The trip to Tibet was quite an adventure and it’s definitely a unique experience I told all my friends about. The views are amazing too. I recommend working with Tibet Vista for organizing your Tibet trip, everyone is so friendly and quick to reply and help, it made the trip very smooth and nice.
