Answer: No. For the Chinese residents of HK, all you need is the HK Passport and Home Return Permit for the Tibet visit. The rule also applies to Chinese residents in Macau.
2. Can You Tell Me the Best Way to Reach Tibet from HK?
Answer: Well, it’s hard to tell which way is the best. However, there are a number of ways to reach Lhasa from HK that have different pros and cons.
The fast way to reach Lhasa from HK is by flying to Chengdu first and then change flight To Lhasa. Overall, it takes around 5.5hrs for the flight. However, you do need more time in Lhasa for acclimatization to quick altitude ascent. Another way is to fly from HK to Chengdu and then take Chengdu-Lhasa train to Tibet. You can enjoy a safe ride on the asphalt road all the way from Lhasa to Gyirong port (Sino-Nepal border). The most treacherous road would be initial around 10km’s ride close to the border area. However, the experienced Nepali drivers will manage to take you safely to your hotel in Kathmandu.
