This 11-day Guangzhou and Tibet tour offers the perfect introduction to China, blending the dynamic modernity of Guangzhou and Xi’an with the rich history of ancient Chinese civilization. In addition to exploring these vibrant cities, you'll take a scenic journey via the Qinghai-Tibet Railway by the Tibet train. The adventure culminates in a visit to the sacred city of Lhasa and the stunning landscapes of Nyingchi, often referred to as the "Swiss Alps" of Tibet, with its breathtaking natural beauty.

Day to Day Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Guangzhou

Welcome to Guangzhou, where tradition meets modernity in an exhilarating blend.

Upon arrival, our local guide will meet you at the airport or the railway station and escort you to your hotel.

The rest of the day is for you to have a good rest or explore the surroundings yourself.

Stay overnight in Guangzhou.

Optional Ideas:
In the evening, you can head to enjoy the spectacular night view of Guangzhou City from Canton Tower, the second-highest tower in the world. It features the world’s highest bubble tram, the longest spiral staircase, and the record-breaking Sky Drop, the highest thrill ride in the world according to Guinness. Do bring your camera for the stunning panoramic night view of Guangzhou City.

Day 2: Guangzhou Tour: Full-day tour in Chimelong Safari Park and Chimelong International Circus

After breakfast, you will visit the Chimelong Safari Park, which is the perfect place for families with kids to have fun in entire day. You can see a huge group of flamingos, swans, elephants, giraffes, and many more animals. They are mostly out in the open, not penned up. The animals seemed very happy and well taken care of. The trolley ride through the open enclosures was great. Walking through the park is an all-day event.

At night, all of us will enjoy the world-class performance by Chimelong International Circus. You will definitely be blown away by non-stop mesmerizing entertainment. From jaw-dropping stunts to the shows of adorable animals, it’s worth every penny spent on it.

Day 3: Fly from Guangzhou to Xi’an

In the morning, you’ll take a flight from Guangzhou to Xi’an, the ancient capital of China.

Upon your arrival, you will be escorted to your hotel and have a good rest.

In the afternoon, you’ll explore the Ancient City Wall. The Ancient City Wall. With a total length of approximately 14 kilometers, the Ancient City Wall in Xian is the most complete and largest existing Ming Dynasty city wall in China. While walking along the city wall, you can see the complete layout of the imperial city more than 1,000 years ago.

Last, you will enjoy a leisure walk around the lively Muslim Quarter, where the largest and oldest mosque in China is located. Here, you can find the most typical local snacks and explore Muslim culture.

Stay overnight in Xi’an.

When visiting the Ancient City Wall, you can rent a bike at an extra cost to cycle on the City Wall.

Day 4: Xi’an Tour: Terracotta Army and the Big Wild Goose Pagoda

In the morning, your first stop will be the world-famous Terracotta Army, which is also one of the eight wonders of the world. These terracotta warriors and horses were the size of a real army and were buried alongside the Emperor in a vast underground palace.

Next, you will visit the Big Wild Goose Pagoda (Dayanta). Built by the Buddhist Master Xuanzang over 1,300 years ago, the pagoda shows the artistic style and craftsmanship of the Tang Dynasty. You could learn more about how Indian Buddhism was introduced into China and how Buddhism flourished in China afterward.

Stay overnight in Xi’an.

Day 5: Board the Train to Lhasa from Xi’an

Today is free for you until you board the train to Tibet.

You will be transferred to Xi’an Railway Station and take the overnight train to Lhasa. Although Xi'an Railway Station is located in the urban area and is only 3 kilometers away from the Bell Tower in the city center, it is recommended to arrive at the station early to avoid long queues at the station.

Day 6: Travel on the Tibet Train and Arrive in Lhasa

Today, you will enjoy the most beautiful scenery of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway through the Tibet Plateau. Endless land of snow, vast desert, boundless grassland, snow-capped mountains, and stunning lakes will continually appear and strongly attract your heart.

When you arrive in Lhasa, our friendly Tibetan guide will greet you at the railway station with a Hada (the traditional Tibetan ceremonial scarf) and warm blessings.

Then, the guide and the driver will take you to your hotel in downtown Lhasa. You may view the Yarlung Tsangpo River/Brahmaputra River (the Longest and largest river in Tibet) and Lhasa River.

After settling into your hotel, take some time to rest and adjust to the high altitude.

Day 7: Lhasa Tour: Drepung Monastery and Sera Monastery (B)

In the morning, you’ll explore the largest monastery in Tibet - Drepung Monastery, which was once the home to over 10,000 monks. As you walk through the Coqen Hall, your guide will provide detailed explanations of the worldview of Tibetan Buddhism and introduce notable figures in Tibetan Buddhist history.

Next, you’ll visit the renowned Loseling College (or an equivalent), offering a glimpse into the study and life of Tibetan monks. Explore their dormitories to gain insights into the Tibetan monks' daily routines and living conditions.

In the afternoon, you’ll head to Sera Monastery, another of the ‘great three’ Gelug monasteries of Tibet, to witness the famous Tibetan Monks Debate (15:00 - 17:00, from Monday to Saturday). Your guide will intricately explain how Tibetan monks engage in these debates to acquire knowledge and advance in their academic degrees.

Day 8: Lhasa Tour: Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, Barkhor Street (B)

After breakfast, your first stop is the Potala Palace, where you can enjoy a panoramic view of the Lhasa Old Town. Discover the lives and stories of the Dalai Lamas through history within the palace, and the extraordinary treasures it holds. The most valuable collections of Potala Palace are the gilded burial stupas of former Dalai Lamas and the meditation cave of the 33rd great king of Tibet.

After touring the Potala Palace, you will visit Longwangtan Park at the foot of the Potala Palace. Here, you can appreciate the majestic Potala Palace from a different perspective and engage in local Tibetan folk activities.

In the afternoon, you will head to the heart of Tibetan religion - the Jokhang Temple. Inside you can see the statue of Buddha Sakyamuni at the age of twelve. Outside, you can see pilgrims making prostrating in front of Jokhang Temple. Around the temple is Barkhor Street, where you can do kora (a religious circle of a building or mountain) with pilgrims and locals, and explore the old market.

Next, follow your guide to one of the liveliest indoor Tibetan tea houses in Lhasa. Sip traditional Tibetan sweet tea alongside local Tibetans as your guide shares insights into Tibetan social dynamics and daily life.

Day 9: Lhasa to Nyingchi (B)

In the morning, you’ll take a drive eastward via the highway from downtown Lhasa to Bayi Town (Nyingchi). On the way, you’ll pass through the Mila Pass (5013m) and reach Kongpo Gamda Town.

Then, you will head to Basom Tso Lake, located about 360 km east of Lhasa at an altitude of 3,500 meters above sea level. Originating from the Nyingchi Tangha Mountain, the lake stretches for several kilometers and is surrounded by snow-capped mountains and dense forests. In the middle of the lake, there is a small island with a Lamaist temple.

After visiting Basomtso Lake, you will continue the journey to Bayi town, the central area of Nyingchi.

Day 10: Nyingchi Tour: Cypress Reserve Area, Sekyim La pass, and View Mt. Namjia Bawa (B)

After breakfast, you will visit the Great Cypress Nature Reserve Area, which is 15 kilometers southeast of the Bayi Town, The king cypress in the reserve is about 50 meters tall and is about 2,500 years old.

Then, you will drive to Sekyim la Pass (4720m) and enjoy the great Mt. Namjia Bawa (7,700m) in the distance.

After that, you’ll continue to drive to the bushy Lunang Forest with an elevation of 3700m. It is a typical highland meadow strip, and both sides of Castle Peak from low to high from the dense bushes, spruce trees, and pine. The distant clouds, the snow-capped mountains, the endless forests, and the quiet pastoral displayed a beautiful landscape.

After today’s sightseeing, you will get back to Nyingchi.

Day 11: Departure from Nyingchi (B)

Today marks the end of your Tibet tour.
