There are two airports in Chengdu, Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport and Chengdu Tianfu International Airport. Both of the two airports have flights to Lhasa.

Situated to the southwest of Chengdu Shuangliu district, the airport is around 16 kilometers away from the downtown area. There are two terminals in the airport. Passengers can buy tickets and board flights to Lhasa in both terminals.

Chengdu Tianfu International Airport is located in Jianyang City, 50 kilometers away from the center of Chengdu. You can reach Tianfu International Airport from Chengdu City by taking Metro Line 18 and Metro Line 19.

4. Can I fly to other cities in Tibet instead of Lhasa from Chengdu?

Apart from Lhasa, tourists can also take flights to other prefectures in Tibet from Chengdu, including Shigatse and Nyingchi. There is usually one direct flight from Chengdu to Shigatse every day during peak season. But the departure time may alternatively be the early morning. It takes about 2 hours to get to Shigatse Peace Airport.

For tourists traveling to Tibet for the first time, it is a good choice to fly to Nyingchi. Located in the southeast part of Tibet, Nyingchi is the lowest prefecture of Tibet, featuring a humid climate and attractive scenery. The lower elevation in Nyingchi will help tourists better acclimate to the high altitude, before ascending to other higher places of Tibet. Currently, there are 6 direct flights from Chengdu to Nyingchi each day during high travel season. All flights leave in the early morning or at noon, so you can have hours to enjoy the beautiful landscape there after your arrival.

5. How to board the flights to Lhasa as a foreign passenger?

First of all, for foreign tourists planning to travel to Tibet, you need to obtain your passport, Chinese Visa, and Tibet Travel Permit. All of them are required to be handed in for the check as you board the flight to Lhasa. As for the Tibet Travel Permit, it is the required document for all foreign tourists to travel around Lhasa and its surroundings. 6. Are there any international flights to Lhasa?

Currently, Kathmandu is the only city that operates international flights to Lhasa. Usually, there are two direct flights between Kathmandu and Lhasa every day during the high travel season. To take the flight from Kathmandu to Lhasa, tourists need to obtain the Group Tourist Visa and Tibet Travel Permit. To make your Tibet tour much more flexible and convenient, you can first fly to mainland China and then transfer to Tibet.
