How to Book Air China Flights to Tibet
For foreign tourists who want to fly to Tibet, one can firstly take an international flight from your countries to the mainland China, and then buy a domestic Chinese air ticket to Tibet’ gateway cities. As mentioned above, since there are a number of direct international flights flying into China handled by Air China, you can just browse their official website (www.airchina.com) to search and book the appropriate flight for yourself.

As for the domestic flights to Tibet, the booking process will become a little more complicated, for international travelers. According to the laws and policies, all foreign tourists who want to enter to Lhasa and travel around Tibet should get the Tibet Travel Permit in the first place. Meanwhile, before taking a flight to Tibet, you should firstly submit the original copy of your Tibet Travel Permit for check, and then you are qualified to board the flight. Accordingly, all travel booking websites, including the one of Air China, are allowed to sell Tibet air tickets to Chinese citizens only. As a foreign traveler, you could only go to the local Air China office to verify Tibet Travel Permit and buy tickets on the site.
Notes on Booking Your Tibet Flights
1. Before purchasing your air tickets to Tibet, you should get your Tibet Travel Permit first. 2. When book the flights to Tibet, foreigners need to provide the passport name and number, as well as the Tibet Travel Permit for check. Make sure that your information is true and accurate, or you may face troubles when boarding.
3. As for the aviation personal accident insurance, it is not compulsory when buy an air ticket. But it is advisable to buy one. The premium is only CNY 20 each, with the coverage of CNY 200,000.
4. Book in advance and try to book the first flight of the day because the weather tends to be clear in the morning, thus you can catch the stupendous view from the plane. Also try to get a window seat for yourself. Usually, you can ask the airport attendant to arrange a window seat when check in for your boarding pass, if the required seat is available. So make sure to get to the airport early to get more chance for the available window seats.
5. Flying to Lhasa earlier than your scheduled tour gives you more time for acclimatization. Try to get to Lhasa earlier, say one or two days before your scheduled tour, then you can make it better to adapt to the high elevation and harsh climate before beginning your lifetime adventure in Tibet. Do not be scared if you suffer from mild altitude sickness, like headache. Stay calm and avoid exerting yourself too much. So you will be less likely to suffer from acute altitude sickness.
6. It is suggested to exchange phone numbers with the booking office or authorized agents when buying your air ticket, in case that you may need to call them for rescheduling or changing your flight. Generally, the office or agent will also inform you of the flight delay or other alteration over the phone.
7.For a normal fare ticket, whether it is one-way, round trip or circle trip, it is valid for one year from the date of commencement of travel. Normal fare means the highest fare established for First Class, Business Class and Economy Class that is applicable within a given period.
8. Children of 2 to 11 years old are charged 50% of the normal adult fare when taking domestic flights. Children on international flights are charged 75% of the applicable adult fare. Unaccompanied Minors are charged subject to Air China’s applicable fare policies. Infants under 2 years are not required to have their own seats and charged 10% of the normal adult fare.
