Health Care in Tibet

Hospitals or health centers are available in some big hotels or sizable towns and cities. Before travelling to remote areas like the north of Tibet, CITS Tibet Travel suggest that tourists should stay in Lhasa for more days to adapt to the hight altitude. The altitude-related illness is the biggest threat for people who travel in Tibet.
If tourists get light altitude sickness, they could take medicine with the doctor's supervision, more water, enough sleep, less activities and proper food. If serious, the weak toursit need to receive treatment in the local hospital at the first place and then leave Tibet for the lower place as soon as possible.
In remote areas like North Tibet and Everest Base Camp, a tourist suffers from any altitude-related illness, he/she must be tranferred to the nearest hospital or health center. Usually, for the tourists in weak condition, to stay overnight at the high altitude is not a good idea. It will be very troublesome to deal with the altitude-sick man in the night.
