Nagchu

Nagchu Prefecture lies in the northern part of the Tibet Autonomous Region. It neighbors Qamdo in the east, Ngari in the west, Lhasa, Nyingtri and Shigatse in the south, and Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region and Qinghai Province in the north. It is embraced by the Tanggula, Nyainqentanglha and Kangdese Mountains. And the snow-capped Dargo Mountain
in the west and the Burgyi Mountain in the east guard the treasure land like two lions. Covering an area of some 400,000 square kilometers, Nagchu Prefecture is generally called as Changtang. It is at an average elevation of over 4,500 meters. Nagchu Administrative office is located in Nagchu Town, which is on the edge of the Changtang. It is also one of the highest, coldest and most windswept towns in Tibet.Nagchu town serves as an important stop on both the road and railway line between Qinghai and Tibet.From 10 to 16 August, Nagchu will hold a horse-racing festival.
