High-grade restaurants center around Potala Palace, Beijing Middle Road and Norbulingka, which offer Indian, Nepali, French, Italian, Japanese and Korean food, Peking Duck, Wenzhou Seafood, Hairy Crabs, Shanghai Dish, Chowchew Dish, etc.

The only western-style fast food restaurant in Lhasa is Dicos. Local food like Lanzhou handmade noodle, Xi'an Roujiamo, Xinjiang Big-dish chicken cost RMB 5 to RMB 20 per person.

If want to have a taste of Tibetan food, the local restaurant around Barkhor street is your choice. The delicious western-style food could be got in these restaurants operated by Nepali.

These restaurants in the Tibetan quarter around Barkhor Street are very popular for most individual travellers.

 

Western
Tashi I
It is still a favorite place though the competition is increasing because of its friendly services and cheap prices. It always offers a renewal of the menu, on which everything is decent. In Tashi I, the bobis which is made up of flavored cream cheese and fried vegetables or meat is highly recommended. Compared with desserts of other restaurants, its cheesecakes are overshadowed but still a treat. English menu.

 

Tashi II
It is in Kirey Hotel, but Tashi II has the same menu as taht of Tashi I. It offers a quiet place. English menu can be found.

 

Dunya Restaurant
It is a foreign-run restaurant with excellent and wide-ranging food, so the price is more expensive than more other. From the oregano-flavored pizza crust to the Italian imported pasta, Try the homemade sandwiches and soups and the good salad in lunch. Menu is also in English.

 

Nam-tso Restaurant
Prices are higher than at Tashi I & II, but it offers plentiful dishes including vegetarian lasagna, burritos and yak burgers. A classic Lhasa meal called the chicken sizzler. It is very comfortable to sit outdoors to have your meals in the sunny sky. Menu is in English.

 

Snowland Restaurant
It is a popular place, which belongs to Snowland Hotel. It serves good Continental and Nepali food. Its cakes are the best in town. If want to try Indian food, the delicious chicken tikka masala is a good choice. Menu in English could be offered.

 

Tibetan, Chinese&Muslim
Kagui Nongmo Sakhang
You could go to the Tibetan-style restaurant with your Tibetan friend and enjoy the local food. From curried potatoes to sweet-and-sour ribs, Tibetan and Chinese dishes could be found easily. Tibetan staff are very friendly and helpful.

 

Lanqing Qingzhen Fanguan
It is very special with the cosy Tibetan-style seating amony many Muslim restaurants in the old town. The Xiao/Da Panji Chicken in a sauce with potatoes and carrots is very tasty as one of Xinjiang Specialties, and some noodles could be put in it after the chicken is eaten up. That photos are attched in the menu is very helpful, though they are a litte different from the real things. Noodle dishes, such as chaomianpian or ganbanmian are the best choices for lunch.

 

Pentoc Tibetan Restaurant
It's a good place to try homemade Tibetan food, such as momos, thugpa, shemdre, plus butter tea and chang. It is located in an alley of Beijing East  Road. English Menu is helpful.

 

Feijie Restaurant
It is a simple Sichuan-food restaurant across from Banak Shol hotel. It offers good and cheap Chinese dishes. few dishes on menu are described in English.

 

Norzing Selchung Tashi Yamphel Restaurant
It is very convenient if you visit Ramoche Temple. A great views could be got from the upstairs Tibetan restaurant.

 

Islam Restaurant
It is offer the authentic Muslim food. It is very enjoyable to order a cup of Muslim tea and a bowl of Xinjiang and watch the chefs working in the open kitchen.

 

Holy Land Vegetarian Restaurant
The English and picture menus both can be found. Vegetarians could try the "soy fish" or "soy chicken feet", which is not the real meat. The wooden tables and Buddhist images on the wall give the palace a simple Zen-like atmosphere.

 

Nepali
New Mandala Restaurant
From the second floor or the rooftop of the restaurant, you could get the full view of Barkhor Street. Inside it, some lovely and ornate Tibetan murals come in view. Before the hard trek, it also offers packaged Nepali foods such as muesli and soup mixes. Tashi restaurants in Shigatse and Tsetang also belong to the owner. English menu is provided.

 

Mandala Restaurant
In summer, seat on the rooftop and have awesome views of Jokhang Temple. It is located on Barkhor Circuit and offers a wide range of dishes from Indian curries to pizza, plus a few special-occasion Tibetan dishes and decent breakfasts. Menu in English.

 

Damxung County
On the way from Lhasa to Nam-tso, Damxung is a popular lunch spot. Like Linxia Shuangcheng Qingzhen Fanguan, several good Muslim noodles could be found.
