Tibet Overland
In the early 1950s, to push the economy ahead, famous Sichuan-Tibet and Qinghai-Tibet Highways was built. The following years witnessed a series of great projects including Yunnan-Tibet, Xinjiang-Tibet and Kathmandu-Lhasa Highways.
Sichuan to Tibet highway is the most dangerous one in the world, but the scenery along the way is the most beautiful and suffocating. It starts from Chengdu of Sichuan and ends at Lhasa of Tibet. Qinghai to Tibet highway is the busiest paved road. Though safe and easy, the scene is very normal. It is usually used to transfer goods to Lhasa from Xining.
The most colorful highway is from Yunnan to Tibet. To start from Dali, Lijiang or Shangri-la and end at Lhasa is the popular route for tourists. It is the hardest trip to try the highway from Kashgar of Xinjiang to Lhasa of Tibet. The overland tour from Lhasa to Kathmandu via Mt. Everest Base Camp is booked by most tourists nowadays.
