There are Muslims of the Hui Nation in the Ching army garrisoning Chamdo at Ching Dynasty. The first batch of Muslims of the Hui Nation was mainly the descendant of Hui Nation of Shanxi. At the every beginning they got Chamdo, they intermarried with the local women and settled there. The life circle of Muslims of the Hui Nation was formed. As the population of the Hui Nation grew and their economic capacity developed, the Hui Nation living in Chamdo raised founds and built a chapel in the form of Han palace in the middle to later period of Ching Dynasty. At that time, most people of the Hui nation are the descendants of Hui Nation of Shanxi, so a stele inscribed with the gold word&rdquo; Shanxi Hui Nation Guidehall&rdquo; was hanging on the gate of the chapel. The guildhall was the place the Muslims of Hui Nation went for worships, and also an activity center of cultural entertainment for the fellow provincials of Shanxi. In the wake of the build of Shanxi Hui Nation Guildhall, Islam began to take rot in Chamdo and the mosque of Chamdo was established later.</p> <p><img height="300" alt="The mosque in Chamdo" width="453" src="/images/The mosque in Chamdo/000802e406ec097faa6d17.jpg" /></p> <p>Thebuilding area of Chamdo Mosque is over 3700 square meters, among which the palace hall cover an area of over 300 square meters. It adopts the Chinese traditional architectural form of &ldquo;Quadrangle Dwelling&rsquo;. There is an architectural complex around the mosque, including: the main hall for religious service, teaching room, bedrooms of the imams, bathing room, kitchen guest rooms, heights, and slaughterhouse etc. above the gate of the main hall hangs a stele with gold character and blue background.<br /> The Fast Meeting of Muslims in Chamdo has a grand occasion. During the meeting, the mosque is decorated with lanterns and colored hangings, and the attending people are the most. In addition, they also celebrate the traditional festival of Islam, Slaughter Festival or called Kurban Festival. The Muslims of Hui Nation in Chamdo have lived in Tibetan area for generations, so their Islamic religious activities are unavoidably influenced by some local customs. For example, they would light butter lamps while the Train on Contract Festival. There are big incense burners like those of Buddhism at the gate of the mosque.
