The village has obtained its wealth by the production of the national handicraft, and it is a well-off village which is well-known over the whole county. It gains a reputation of &ldquo;the hometown of Craftsmen&rdquo; and enjoys great prestige inside and outside the autonomous region. There are thirty-two households in the village, while twenty-four of them have handcrafts; 245 villagers engage in the production of the national handcraft. Their products are mainly Thangkas, Buddhas, articles of gold, silver, copper, iron, and wood, etc. They are able to forge bronze statues of Bodhisattva which are great in styles and sizes. Besides contracting to do the works of Sichuan, Qinghai, Yunnan and Tibet, they also get orders of bronze statues of Buddhism which come from Wuhan, Taiwan, etc. their most famous work is the 30-meter-tall, giant statue of Bodhisattva, which is produced for the Zhaido Monastery and cost fifteen tons of copper or so. The whole procedure of production lasted three years. This giant statue Buddha of Tsongkhapa, the founder of Yellow Sect, is even eight meters taller than the former biggest statue of Bodhisattva of the world, the 22-meter-tall, gilt statue of Qamba Bodhisattva in Tashilhunpo Monastery, Xigaze Prefecture, Tibet.</p> <p>There are also painters of Mesa School in Wongdagang. Their tracks have covered Chamdo, Lhasa, etc. born in an artisan-painter aristocratic family of Wongdagang. Chiwe Sub-county, Repa Wangdu is an outstanding representative of Mesa School of the Chamdo painter circle of modern times. He had once participated in the painting work of Derge wood bloc Buddhist painting. Owing to some certain historic opportunities, there are numerous descendents and successors of the artisans of Nepal, India, Sikkim, Lhasa, and the interior of China in the village. They mainly make thangkas, articles of Buddhism, and articles for production and daily life. Especially their thangka-making is renowned over the inside and outside the autonomous region and has strong national features. Besides, it is the main spreading area of Garxoi Garchi School of thangka paintings. As early as the every beginning of 12th century, some people here had engaged in the painting art. In the middle age of 16th century, based on the Mainying School and Maisa School and absorbing the artistry of the inland landscape paintings, Garxoi Garchi Painting School was set up by Tashi Sandi in Garma. The leading features of this school are clean and tidy appearance and smooth lines. The clothes lines are stretched exquisitely; the figures have vivid manner.
