It is said that it was served once as a meditation retreat for Guru Rinpoche.</p> <p>Travelers like to spend days at Samye for hiking. Sometimes, visitors would find&nbsp; a pilgrim truck heading up. Follow the truck, they might meet something unique. Sometimes, visitors would hire a tractor in Samye, for the walk could take as long as 5 hours to go up there, and 3 to go down. You can ask at the reception of the Monastery Guesthouse for the tractor. But if you insist hiking, remember to take plenty of water, and <img height="350" alt="Chim-puk in the autum" width="346" align="right" src="/images/Chim-puk/Chim-puk2.jpg" />something to eat, too.</p> <p>Around Guru Rinpoche's original meditation cave, a small monastery is built, just about halfway up the hill. Visitors can follow those pilgrims to the various&nbsp; shrines there. Or, you can take your sleeping bag and spend a night here. It may provides you with some meditation as the pilgrimages do.</p> <p>You can also climb all the way to the top of the peak above Chim-puk, provided you have enough energy, for it could be a tough hiking. You'll probably only have enough time to do this if you get a lift to Chim-puk or stay the night there. You can start your hiking from the Guru Rinpoche cave. Then you go follow the left-hand valley, which is behind the caves. Then you slog it uphill for about 1.5 hours. Finally, you find yourself on the top of the ridge, and you can also surprisingly find several clumps of prayer flags. From here, you can keep on&nbsp; walking along a path for another 1.5 hours to the top of the conical peak. There are a couple of meditation retreats on the peak. Also, the fine views of the Yarlung Tsangpo Valley is the best reward for all your climbing.
