Riwo Dechen Monastery

Riwo Dechen Monastery is a large, active Gelugpa-sect monastery. It is located across the lower slopes of Mt Chingwa, which is just below the fort. It would be a nice walk from the up to the ridge north of the monastery and then down to the fort.

It takes only a half-hour walk from Chongye's atmospheric old Tibetan quartert to the Riwo Dechen Monastery. Then you turn to the west at the town's T-junction, and ask local people for the "gompa".  A grand, new chorten is on the halfway up. Sometimes, you can stay at the monastery for a night. It would be a magical experience.
