Sera is 5 kilometers away from Lhase. Several monks live in Sera Monastery and a lot of houses, chapels, colleges and living quarters make up the Monastery which was built in 1419. Ch&ouml;rtens and stupas arfe used to keep the remains of famous lamas.</p> <p style="text-align: left">Sera Monastery holds the debating every afternoon of Friday in the courtyard. It has become a heat spot tat attracts a lot of people. Around 3:30, hundreds of lamas in red robes will gather together to debate in a way of clapping hands in the each other's faces and yelling at each other. That is to make the important points in the debate. Though it looks serious, actually they wear smiles on their faces.</p> <p style="text-align: left"><strong>A brief introduction of lamas' debating</strong><br /> the debating usually takes place in the Debating Square. A group of lamas gather here and debate about Buddhist theory. The cushions in the garden are a good place for them to lie.</p> <p style="text-align: left">It usually goes like this: one of them stands in front of others and states his understanding of Buddhism.&nbsp;Another sits in front of him and form a circle, asking questions. Then the one answers and goes on debating.</p> <p style="text-align: left">When the standing&nbsp;lama delivers an animated clapping of his hands, he means that has found really important arguments. However, when he slaps the back of one hand to the palm of the other, he means that he has failed to express himself.</p> <p style="text-align: left">The debating doesn't limit to a few monks. It could include more than 100 monks at any time. They often divide into two dozen small groups. &nbsp;Because the debating can be very passionate, sometimes the physical contact happens. Some groups pushing each other while some many subdue whilsts as if they were blowing.
