Kyichu Hotel Lhasa

LOCATION: The Kyichu Hotel is named after the Kyichu River, which in Tibetan is known as "the river of happiness". A tributary of the Yarlung Tsangpo (also known as Brahmaputra), and the cradle of the ancient Tibetan civilization, the river meanders through the fertile valley in which the fabled and formerly forbidden city of Lhasa is situated.

They are conveniently situated between the sacred Jokhang Temple in Barkhor Square, and the World Heritage famed Potala Palace-and just a few minutes walk from both-in the ancient, traditional quarter of Lhasa. The Kyichu Hotel, like its namesake river, will also bring you happiness and an unforgettable stay while in Tibet.  Rooms in the south wing opened in 2001. Overlooking an incongruous lawn with white outdoor furniture, these midsize rooms boast clean wooden floors, simple furnishings, and spotless bathrooms with deep tubs. Tourists rave about the excellent service here, saying that the staff members are the nicest people in all of Tibet. The solar-heated hot water can be unreliable. The restaurant on the first floor prepares a superb buffet breakfast for ¥30 ($3.90/£1.95).

One of the oldest private hotels in Lhasa catering to foreigners, the Kyichu is a cozy 52-room, family run establishment. We treat everyone who enters our doors like our own family members or house guests, with personalised service and individual attention. Hence aside from discerning travellers and old Tibet lovers, many of our guests are long-term sojourners including scholars, academic research fellows, NGOs, medical teams etc. Making the Kyichu your base in Tibet, you will also find our friendly and knowledgeable English-speaking staff provide complete satisfaction and make your stay with us most memorable
