Snow-melting equipment effectively protects Tibetan railway

Snow-melting equipment at the turnouts of 32 railway stations along Golmud-Lhasa Section of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway has effectively protected the train since its operation on July 1, 2006. Up to now, there is no accident happened because of firn along the railway.

32 out of 45 stations of the Golmud-Lhasa Section of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway have been installed with snow-melting equipment to automatically melt the firn and make the trains easy to make a turn.

"In the first winter after the launch of the Qinghai-Tibet Railway, the snow-melting equipment has passed the test of heavy snow and worked well. All the long-distance startup, on-the-spot startup and self-startup have offered service to the railway. We started to record the environment temperature, equipment startup time, heating duration, delayed heating duration and power-consuming to offer experience to the future maintenance and effective data for extending the snow-melting equipment in cold area," said a staffer from the Qinghai-Tibet Railway Corporation.
