Sakya Monastery is rated as a national 4A scenic site
Sakya Monastery in Shigatse was rated as a national 4A scenic site a few days ago. Sakya monastery is situated 25 km southeast of a bridge which is about 127 km west of Shigatse on the road to Tingri in the Tibet Autonomous Region. This monastery is seat of the Sakya or Sakyapa school of Tibetan Buddhism and reputed as the "Second Dunhuang" due to its colossal collection of scriptures, murals and Thangkas.
So far there are three national 4A scenic sites in Shigatse, Tibet. They are Mount Everest, Tashilhunpo Monastery and Sakya Monastery. Facilities at and around these sites are being improved day by day.
