Pomda Monastery,now home to 90 monks has a history of 360 years, but in 1959,it was destroyed and was rebuilt between 1984 and 1988. The main entry hallway of the assembly hall has excellent murals depicting monastic dress codes and the gelong examination that all monks must pass. Besides, there are also a protector chapel, a debating courtyard, and a huge mani wall and mani lhakhang.</p> <p><strong>Kyidrup Monastery</strong><br /> If you walk another 12km, you'll find the Kyidrup Monastery, home to seven monks and two nuns. 10km from here is a bridge gives access to the yellow-painted. It will only takes you about 25 minutes to cross a glorious grassy plain.</p> <p><strong>Yushig Monastery</strong><br /> Some 6km north from the airport lies a dirt road leads to the remote and welcoming Yushi Monastery. It is home to 50 Kagyupa monks, and three trulkus, one of whom is considered a manifestation of Rechungpa-- a disciple of Milarepa. The main hall has images of Sakyamuni, Marpa and Milarepa. In the afternoons, the spirited debating here sounds more like a pub brawl than a theological discussion.</p> <p><strong>Tra'e Monastery</strong><br /> About 16km north from Chamdo Bangda airport is the turnoff to Lhorong. This road follows the former caravan trace to Lhasa. Soon the main road reach to the 4572m Lang-la, and then descends dramatically at 29km, passing a hot-springs complex, then to Kyitang village. Tra&rsquo;e Monastery lies on the southeastern edge of the village and is worth visiting. The kora around the old chapel is surrounded by animal skulls. A new assembly hall next door is being constructed.</p> <p><strong>Endun Monastery</strong><br /> North of Kyitang, crossing a ridge over the 3465m Nya-la, you can have a glance at the Dza-chu or Mekong River of the chocolate-colored . A road now&nbsp; has been paralleled with Mekong. It passes a Willy Wonka- esque landscape of green spearmint fields, purple raspberry hills and chocolate streams. Around 7km is a dirt track leads to Drayab and the Endun Monastery.
