The weakening of Qing dynasty also derived Tibet from former support against the British Empire, which had the desire to make Tibet its expansive colony of India.</p> <p>In 1860, he was officially enthroned as the 12th Dalai Lama, two years after he was recognised as a reincarnation. When he was still a child, Europeans were not allowed to enter Tibet due to the wars that between the British Empire and Sikkim and Bhutan, who were controlled by Tibetan lamas. Britain tried to transform Tibet as its colony by launching wars, which was unacceptable to the lamas in Lhasa. At the same time, Tibet denied the authority of the Manchu government when missionaries threatened to get into Tibet across the Mekong and Salween Rivers.</p> <p>Although enthroned on 11 March 1873, Trinley Gyatso died on 25 April 1875 because of a mysterious illness, which prevented him from gain full authority in Tibet.
