Especially in Hinduism, Mount Kailash is the abode of Lord Shiva and holy place for eternal bless. Lake Manasarowar and Lake Rakshastal in Tibe are also not far away from the mount.

Though many peaks of main mountains among the world today have already been conquered by different people, Mount Kailash still keeps a distance from climbers for the religion protection—climbers will be regarded to be in difference with Buddhist and Hindu beliefs. Therefore, the beauty of the peak hasn’t been enjoyed by anyone.the mightiest mount

The mountain is known in Tibetan as Kang Rinpoche or Precious Jewel of Snow.
Though it is not the mightiest mountain in the region, Mt Kailash stands apart from the peak for its shape-like the handle of a millstone and its year-round snowcapped peak according the Tibet. The four sheer walls are like the four points of a compass. The south side is special for a horizontal line of rock strata punctuating a long vertical cleft. It is a swastika Buddhist symbol of spiritual strength and that is why Mt Kailash is considered as a mythical status.

Mt Kailash is worshiped in 4 religions including Hindus, Buddhist faith, the Jains of India and the ancient Bon. In Hindus, Shiva owns the place while Demchok, a wrathful manifestation of Sakyamuni or Sakya Thukpa lives here and is regarded as the equivalent of Hinduism's Shiva. In Jains of India, the first of their saints was emancipated here. And in the ancient Bon religion of Tibet, Mt Kailash was the sacred Yungdrung Gutseg upon which the Bonpo founder Shenrab alighted from heaven.

Asia has a story about the mount. It is said to be the navel of the world. Four great rivers are generated from here and benefit the areas they flow through. The Hindu epics is the origin of the story which says that the summit of Mt Meru kisses the heaven and is full of crystal, ruby, lapis lazuli and gold. Mt Meru is home to gods and it is a vast column 84,000 leagues high. Mt Meru was placed somewhere by Hindu accounts in the towering Himalaya and gradually came to be associated with Mt Kailash specifically. Of course no one has been to the summit to testify if the gods live there. However, it is no coincidence that the myth and the mountain have the confluence because Mt Kailash does indeed lie at the center of an area and is also the key to the drainage system of the Tibetan plateau. The Karnali, feeding into the Ganges, Indus, Sutlej and Brahmaputra are actually generating from here.

In the 1980s, Reinhold Messner is allowed to climb the mountain but he gave up his expedition in deference to the peak's sanctity when he got to the mountain.
In May 2001, Spanish climbers got the permission to climb the mountain but they are stopped bu the international protests.

The word files of this webpage and some images are original works of Tibettravel.Org.
