Burang means''the single hair''in Tibetan language. The main landform of this county is altiplanno.  As one of the holy Tibetan Religious places, there are lots of holy mountains and holy lakes in Burang, such as Mt.Kailash, Lake Manasarovar. Because of the mysterious of the mountains and lakes, Burang is the holly place of tourists and pilgrims from both domestic and abroad.
The county town of Burang is situated on a long narrow gully and consists of an old town district and a new town district. There is a distance of about 2 km between them. Kongquehe, one of the four largest rivers in Ngari, runs past the county town, which has an elevation of 3,900 meters, the lowest in the county. Jirang lies on the southeast bank of Kongque River. It takes on an entirely new look after the liberation in China. Now Jirang has already become the political, economic, cultural, educational, and medical center of Burang.
Burang County lies in the Kongque River Valley between Namunani and Abi Mountains, next to Nepal and India. Burang is the place surrounded by jokuls in Nagri. It borders on India and Nepal, having a 414 kms border and 21 natural passageways across the border. Burang County has been the southwestern door into Ngari from past to present. Because of its special geographic location, border trade has existed for a long time.
From ancient times, Burang had already become an important trade port for export and inport of the Tibet Autonomous Region. Now it is the second grade trade port in China. The Ko¡¯s village is a must for tourists, which typically represents the Burang customs. Along the village, after 8 kilometers, you will find Sherwa Village at the boundary of Sino-Nepal. From Sherwa Village you will see Nepal only cross a river. Every summer and winter, Nepalese merchants stay and do their business in the International Market. In summer they export French and Indian perfume from here. In winter they purchase woolen and sheep here and bring them back to Nepal. The beautiful Nepalese girl with bright-colored clothes is wonderful scenery in Burang. Here you see rich pilgrims from Nepal and India, and you can also find poor Nepalese in raggedy clothes. All this makes Burang carry a strong international feature.
