Western Tibet is higher still and its spiritual and geographical focal point is sacred Mt Kailash (Kang Rinpoche), in whose vicinity rise the sources of the Indus, Sutlej and Brahmaputra rivers. Greater Tibet is comprised of the regions of Amdo (now split by China into the provinces of Qinghai and part of Gansu), Kham (largely incorporated into the Chinese provinces of Sichuan and Yunnan), Ngari (far-western Tibet) and U-Tsang which, together with Ngari and western Kham, is today referred to by China as the Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR).
