Minibus in Tibet

Minibus
Private entrepreneurs are taking to the roads in increasing numbers, and minbus services are now available to many areas that are not served by buses. Unfortunately, local authouthorities occasionally fine minibus services between Lhasa and Shigatse because they don't have government permission(and insurance ) to take foreigners. Consequently, some minibus drivers are cautious of taking foreigners. Minibuses operate out of Lhasa to monastic cites such as Drepung, Tsurphu, ganden and Samye, and to Tsetang and Shigatse. From Shigatse, minibuses run to Gyantse and Lhastse. Ticket prices are cheap but you can expect to spend a lot of time sitting around waiting for the minibus to fill up. It is often possible to get a ride from Lhasa to the Nepali border (with an overnight stop in Shigatse) on minibuses heading down to pick up groups arriving from Kathmandu. Ask travel agencies or look for advertisement on hotel notice boards. You'll pay between Y250 and Y 350 for a seat. Be warned that if the group doesn't run, neither does the minibus, and the agency won't bother to tell you. There are no discounts if you are only going to Tingri or Lhatse.
