Lunang Forest is in the Nyingtri County and alongside the Sichuan Tibet Highway, 3,700 meters above sea level. Going to the east from Bayi town and passing through the mountain pass of Serjila, we will arrive at Lunang Forest made up of bushes, dragon spruces, maple trees and pines. Lunang means “valley of the dragon king” in Tibetan. The landscape here is particularly beautiful, just like a brush-and-ink Chinese painting of a serene scene with far snow mountains, glaciers, primitive forest, villages and rivers nearby. The species of tree and vegetation are rich here with a large number of birds resting and living within the forest. In summer, the area is a sea of green waves in the breeze. In autumn and winter, the pine trees remain green while the maple trees gradually turn frorm green to yellow, and finally to crimson.
Tips: From the Sichuan-Tibet Highway, Lunang Forest can be seen clearly in the distance. The best time to see the forest is from May to November.
