Draksum-Tso/Basum-Tso Lake

Location
The lake Draksum-tso has another name of Basum-Tso in Tibetan language. This is a typical highland lake with stunning views. It is located in the place 90 km west of Kongpo Gymdo County.

Brief Introduction
Basum, or in Tibetan language, Tsokou, means 'green water'. The lake definitely deserves that name: the views are breathtaking, and those glaciers, which covers on the upper reaches of the lake, are beautiful and at the same provide fresh water for the whole region. The lake covers an area of 26 square kilometers. You can see the beautiful snow-capped peaks reflected from the  green waters of the lake. The beautiful view of the lake and the glaciers even makes some European visitors think of the inspiring Swiss Alps when they see the majestic view on the shoreline of this lake. Standing by the lake side, you can see fish shoaling in the water, birds circling in the air and beasts roaming in the forest. You can find a harmonious scene of animals living a comfortable and easy life in Basum with human. The World Tourism Organization listed the lake as a world tourist site.

The Draksum-tso lake also has its religious importance. The lake follows the Nyingmapa order of Tibetan Buddhism. Nyingmapa means the 'school of the old persons'. The school is famous for the so-called red caps, the oldest Tibetan buddistischen schools. The school first begins from the Tibetan Buddhismus on the shores of Basum Lake in 7th and 8th centuries.

The northwest bank of the Basum-tso lake is worth seeing. If you are an adventure lover, you can satisfy yourself with those gigantic stones. The path between those stones allows only one person to pass at a time. People also believe that if one goes through the hole between the stone then the diseases and misfortunes of this person will go away.
