The transportation means of getting to Lhasa, the capital city of tibet, can be various and convenient. There are flights, railways and highways leading to lhasa from both Nepal and many other big cities in China. While, as for the transportation means of getting to Everest Base Camp (EBC), they are very limited.

There are no planes or trains leading to EBC and you may know quite clear about that. Then, what are the transportation means of getting to EBC? Yes, you can only get to EBC taking a tourist bus, 4WDs, or by foot. There are regular buses running between different counties of tibet. But, due to some reasons, foreigners are not allowed to take the regular buses alone and they can only travel in tibet organized by qualified travel agencies. Usually, you can get to EBC from Nepal or from Lhasa and the travel agencies shall usually rent you a tourist bus or 4WDs to drive you there. And 4WDs is highly recommended to you, for the road from Tingri to Rongbuk Monastery is quite bumpy. Rongbuk Monastery is quite close to EBC, and you may trek or drive to EBC from there as you like, but the vehicles entering EBC shall also be charged. The small vehicles like 4WDs are charged 405RMB per one and the big ones like tourist bus are charged 606RMB per one.
