Travel peak season of Tibet tourscomes again. And the transportation means of getting into and out of Tibet is somewhat limited for there are only trains and planes available for foreign tourists. Though, there are also four highways connecting Lhasa, foreigners are not able to take the buses in and out of Tibet. Then, is discount available for flights in and out of Lhasa?
Generally speaking, there are quite a few routes in China that never get discounted. Then, is discount available for flights in and out of Lhasa? Well, I’d like to say that unfortunately, there are seldom any discounts for flights in and out of Lhasa, especially during travel peak season from April to October, and even there are discounts, the money you save from it is very limited.
However, flights between other big cities in China usually get discounted. So if your time is not so tight, you may choose a combination of plane and train. When you get out of Lhasa, you may take the train to Xining first, and then you can take the flights which might get discounted from Xining to fly to your next destination. When you travel into Lhasa, the train ticket is also hard to get especially for soft sleepers on the Tibet train, which makes the price of train ticket much more expensive than the face amount on the ticket. Well, generally speaking, it is still cheaper than taking flights.
One thing you should keep in mind is that no matter you take the flights or Tibet train, you should apply for Tibet travel permit first through qualified travel agency before you start your journey to Tibet. Without Tibet travel permit, you will not be allowed to get on the train or flights in and out of Tibet.
