Travel to Tibet
Birthdays happen every day of the year, and we all have one every year, but when you are on a tour of Tibet, with Tibet Vista, and it is your birthday, it starts to look like something special. And spending it at Everest Base Camp (EBC) is just an added bonus!
Take photos at Mt. Everest
On April 19th, 2017, a group of tourists arrived in Lhasa, to tour the sights of the city before their visit to the base camp at Mt. Everest, and the holy mountain, Mt. Kailash. They spent the first few days getting acclimatized, and seeing the amazing sights of Lhasa and the surrounding countryside, taking in the Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, Barkhor Street, and Drepung and Sera Monasteries.
Moving on to Everest
After they were done in Lhasa, the group headed off with their guide on the long road to Shigatse, and the Everest Base Camp. As the group made it to Everest Base Camp, unknown to him, one of our clients was in for a big surprise!
Birthday celebration for our client
The client, whose name was Kevin, was having his birthday on April 23rd, the same day that they all reached the Base Camp at the world's tallest mountain. Without telling him, we arranged a little preparation for him, to celebrate his birthday in a very special way.
Birthday Decorations Abound
Although not a traditional Tibetan birthday, we included Hada, the long, narrow scarfs that are often left at holy sites to ask blessings. The rest was all typically western, with a hand-made "HAPPY BIRTHDAY" sign, specially written on some paperboard, colored ballons, small handheld taper candles (as used in many Tibetan prayers), and a special birthday cake!
Birthday celebration for our client
It is not often that we see a client celebrating his birthday at the highest mountain in the world, so this had to be a very special birthday for Kevin, in more ways than one. And even though the celebration was simple, Kevin was deeply touched.
Happy Birthday, Kevin. May your life be always filled with blessings.
Even the Yaks were in the Picture
Yaks in the Picture
It looks like the yaks at EBC were also celebrating Kevin's birthday, and this one is all decorated up for the occasion. We only decorated the tent where the cake was, though.

Hanging Out the Flags

And the next stage was a trip onwards to visit the holiest of all the Tibetan natural sites, Mt. Kailash. This holy mountain is recognized as the center of the world in Buddhism, Hinduism, Bonpo, and Jainism.

In the shape of a pyramid, Mt. kailash stands at 6,656 meters above sea level, and has almost symmetrical sides.
Walk the Kora Around the Mountain
Kora around the Mountain
The mountain is also the setting for one of the most arduous of the Tibetan holy koras. Covering almost 52 kilometers around the base of the mountain, the kora takes three days to complete normally. Some pilgrims, however, prostrate themselves at certain points around the kora, and their journey can take many weeks to complete.
Even clouds cannot spoil a good shot
Amazing view of mountain peak
At these heights, sometimes the peak of the mountain is clouded, but it is still an amazing sight to see the mountain where the Buddhist champion, Milarepa, defeated the Bon magician, Naro Bön-chung, and brought forth Buddhism as the main religion in Tibet.

A classic view of the peak of Mt. Kailash, from one of the best vantage points. Thousands of tourists and pilgrims alike come to the mountain every year, to gaze at the wondrous sight, and walk the kora around the base.
